La Madrid Book Fair It has closed its doors after three weeks. has been the 82th edition from the past May 26 to June 11 and a multitude of national and international writers, who have wanted to present their new works or simply hold a meeting with readers and visitors.

In the absence of figures yet on the number of books that have been able to be sold, of course the Book Fair, one of the most prestigious there is, has been a success in terms of influx of public. The Paseo de Coches del Retiro has been able to be seen at all hours more than full, despite the threat of rain that was planned (and fulfilled) at many times. My visit this year it has been three days and these are my impressions and moments most prominent.

Madrid Book Fair — Chronicle

In general, it has been appreciated cool and humid weather that has prevailed during the three weeks of the fair, although the last few days it was hotter, something that has been the tonic in previous years. The first weekend was the grayest and coldest, but that did not discourage the many visitors who debuted the promenade among the more than 300 booths installed.

Faces of the Madrid Book Fair

With signatures every minute and at every booth, the Madrid Book Fair is the best showcase and a meeting point for the most established, successful or new writers who are making their debut in a place full of illusions and smiles.

There have been many faces prestigious and long-standing authors as well as young promises of literature that many young readers also drag along, something that is greatly appreciated. For example, Geronimo Stilton he had many little readers waiting for his signature. But those queues have been repeated, above all, on weekends, where renowned or international writers have been signing more frequently. Many have repeated several days.

so there they went Juan Gomez-Jurado and Barbara Montes, who were with her YA series of Amanda Black books. Also writers of historical novels such as George Molist, louis clog, Santiago Posteguillo, Idelfonso Falcones or Marcos Chicot.

The youngest best sellers

Possibly this has been the edition of the Book Fair with more young names that have stood out with a overwhelming success among readers and, above all, female readers. They have been the ones who have had endless queues and signatures in booths only intended for that purpose. Among those that created the most expectation in the first weekend were luna javierre o Alice kellenAnd also Antonio Hidalgo (So close to you) as a male exception.

And last weekend there was a real revolution where he signed Mercedes ron. The author, with her latest work adapted into a television series on Netflix, My fault, was undoubtedly one of the most acclaimed presences.

From left to right: Cristina Campos, Ian Gibson, Antonio Pérez Henares, Luna Javierre, Javier Cercas, Ayanta Barilli, Juan Luis Cano, Pedro Baños, Santiago Díaz, Javier Díaz and Antonio Mercero (Carmen Mola), Ildefonso Falcones, Nieves Concostrina, Fernando Aramburu, Sara Mesa, Eva Espinet, Javier Urra, Eloy Moreno and Marcos Chicot.

established authors

And of course they turned to their writers who have already achieved everything and more with their work, but who once again had mass baths. Among them, Julia NAVARRO, Dolores Round, Light GoofyFernando Aramburu, Anthony Munoz Molina, Pink Huntsman, Manual villages, Sara Kitchen, Santiago Diaz, Andrew Trapiello or Lorenzo Silva

some international names

The presence of international writers who visit Madrid for this event always creates expectation. And some of those in this edition have been Joel Dicker, Donna Leon, John Boyne, simon scarrow or a great European comic such as Milo Manara. They all had a legion of followers to get their signature.

Moments with authors

The moments that I have shared this year with authors I know, have read or have also interviewed for this blog have not been many, but they have been intense. I have met again with some of the best writers of historical novel, the first of them on the first weekend of the fair, Francis Narla, who presented his new novel titled Bro. And in the last one I was lucky enough to meet all of them at the same time: Teo Palacios, Mario Villén, Javier Pellicer, Nieves Munoz, Victor Fernandez Correas or the historian Daniel Fernandez deLis.

And it was a pleasure to personally greet one of my current references from Novelty homeland as it is Guillermo Galvan. Finally, it was also a very pleasant time with lola llatas.

In short, what It is always worth visiting the Madrid Book Faireven if it's just for an afternoon.
