The letter 'M' of the RAE remains vacant

Since the death of the poet and literary critic Carlos Bousoño (1923-2015) the letter 'M' of the RAE remains vacant. Yesterday the third vote was held to choose the candidate who would have the honor of occupying such a seat but there was a technical tie between the writers Rosa Montero and Carlos García Gual, each of them obtaining 16 votes and 2 that would be blank. The majority required to be able to have a letter in the RAE is 18 votes, so both one and the other must continue waiting for another vote to be held in order to be part of the RAE.

As you surely know there are a total of 46 academic chairs and currently only the 'M' as we have already pointed out previously and the 'J', chair that he occupied at the time the playwright and painter Francisco Nieva, who died last November 2016. The chosen one was Federico Corriente, a candidacy that had been proposed by Juan Gil, Miguel Sáenz and Aurora Egido.

The candidacy of Rosa Montero, would be backed by Margarita Salas, Carme Riera and Pedro Álvarez de Miranda; while a Carlos Garcia Gual It is supported by the authors Francisco Rodríguez Adrados, Juan Luis Cebrián and Carmen Iglesias.
