Stories to work on gender equality

Stories to work on gender equality

I am of the opinion (surely like many of you), that society if it changes for better or for worse is thanks to education what is being received from the most infantile stages even the most mature stages of our growth.

The education received from a young age is like a base to which as we grow we add pillars and floors, which in short, is nothing more than our life experience. But if that initial base, if that education received in the first years of life by any person, has some cracks, it is not as thick and strong as is required, everything that we put on top does not have a reliable and firm support.

Where do I want to go with this? This article is half reflection half recommendation of readings. It is very good for children to grow up and have fun as children; it is very good that they read magic stories where all illusion can be possible; it is also good, even, that they read those classic stories that we have all read as children and that have made us dream so much as adults of the possibility of eternal happiness, etc. But I think it would be even better if today's children grew up reading stories where children stereotypes, both men and women, do not exist ... If you have children, if you are a teacher, we recommend reading these today stories to work on gender equality. Why? Because we are convinced that if we educate our children in equality from a very young age, there will not be as many cases of harassment, mistreatment, and violence as are happening today.

If you think this society needs a 360º turn in terms of education, read on. You are interested! And as a curious and also funny video, I leave you the opinion of a 7-year-old girl about princesses. Is he not right?

"Do princesses wear hiking boots?"

In the book "Do princesses wear hiking boots?" we are described to an energetic, modern and full of life girl that he has many questions to ask his mother. At the end of the book, an illustrated frame around a mirror answers the girl's most important question.

With this book we can not only read ourselves but also transmit to the little ones a sweet lesson about accepting oneself or oneself. It also encourages children to pursue their dreams and make their own mark on the world, encouraging them to seek their own autonomy, to create their strong and special personality, and so on.

Su author es Carmela lavigna. It is a book published by Editorial Obelisco in 2013 and you can find it for a few $12 approx.

"Princesses fart too"

With this funny title he presents us Ilan Brenmann this witty tale. Published by Editorial Algar in 2011, little Laura has a very important question after a long class discussion about Cinderella. Their friend Marcelo has confessed to them that the famous and delicate princess farted a lot. Fortunately, Laura's father, who likes books and good stories, has the secret book of princesses where Laura will find the answers to all her questions.

This book, hard-cover, you can find it for a few 15 or 16 euros, depending on the place of purchase.

"Is there anything more boring than being a pink princess?"

This book published in 2010 by Editorial Thule Ediciones, is written by Raquel Díaz Reguera. In it, Carlota is described, who was a pink princess, with her pink dress and her closet full of pink clothes. But Carlota was sick of pink and being a princess. I wanted to wear red, green or purple, any color other than pink. She didn't want to kiss toads to see if they were princes charming, because she didn't really want to find her prince charming, either. Carlota always wondered why there was no prinYou would like to sail the seas in search of adventure, or also princesses to rescue princes from the clutches of a ferocious wolf and not the other way around as always happened ... I also dreamed of being a princess who hunted dragons or flew in a balloon.

This book, like the first, can be found for just over 12 euros.

And if you still don't have enough with these and you want to keep looking creative writing "Anti-princesses", that totally break with the typical stories that are always told, here you have more in another article I published last month.

Like me, do you think that by changing education and the way of teaching and transmitting certain stories to our little ones, in the future our society could be very different from today? Or on the contrary, do you think that the fundamental key is elsewhere?
