Before continuing writing (or typing, rather) I will say that it is a serious novel, and that perhaps for this reason it took me a bit to get hooked on it at first. It is a novel narrated at a slow pace and with a simple and exquisite language. I have to say that the cover is beautiful, with a simple and subtle beauty that encourages reading. But let's start with the in-depth review ...
The book is written in the third person of the past by an omniscient narrator who tells us the events giving great prominence to Sarah Georginas Parker, the main protagonist of the story. The book is divided into three main parts: the first is called Maltese Fevers and covers Georginas' recent past and her decision and reasons to leave her home in search of a more prosperous and suitable future. It is the part that costs the most when it comes to reading it because it does something slow. It is also the most descriptive part, in which it provides data that are not of great importance for the development of the book. The second part is Harry's cigarette case where Sarah Georginas unfolds in a world totally unknown to her, the world of the rich. This part captures the reader more and is much more entertaining than the first. And finally the third part, Sleep wolf. It is without a doubt the best of the whole book. It is charged with emotion, tension and much, much danger. I read it in a very few days because I just couldn't take my eyes off the book.
What has certainly caught my attention about this work is the amount of historical figures that appear: Hitler, Freud, Kafka, etc ... This will surprise you, no doubt!
It's a novel very well set and documented, to the point that sometimes, while reading, it is as if the reader is walking through those streets where the "scenes" unfold. Rafael R. Costa he has had to do an intense documentation work to be able to write this novel. It is all very well fitted in terms of places and times.
The characters of the book are also very well defined and if I had to stay with one it would undoubtedly be the protagonist herself, Sarah. She is a woman with a strong, intense character, loyal to her values and principles, brave ...
In short: a very talented novel, very successful, which is very worth reading and undoubtedly a great discovery by the author.
