Who doesn't like to read a handful of famous quotes and phrases every now and then? Who has not, on more than one occasion, turned any of those famous quotes into a status sentence of 'Whatsapp' o 'Facebook'? That is why, because I think you may like it, that I bring you one of literary quotes. We are on a website about literature, so where better than to gather some of the best phrases found in the best books that have ever been written?

I leave you with them!

Good phrases from well-known books

  • "It exerted an influence on her that could well be born of love or also of fear and very possibly of one thing and another, since the two emotions are not incompatible" ("The baskerville's hound" de Arthur Conan Doyle).

  • «We cannot command in our love but we can in our actions» ("The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" de Arthur Conan Doyle).
  • "Gifts are made for the pleasure of the one who gives, not for the merit of the one who receives" ("The wind's shadow" de Carlos Ruiz Zafon).

  • «In life you will meet many idiots. If they hurt you, think that it is their stupidity that pushes them to hurt you. This way you will avoid responding to their evil. Because there is nothing worse in the world than resentment and revenge ... »("Persepolis"  de Marjane Satrapi).

  • "Death seemed to me now the most fortunate of all my ills" ("Dracula" de Bram Stoker).

  • "The time you wasted for your rose makes your rose so important" ("The little Prince" de Antoine de Saint-Exupéry).

  • "Oh envy, root of infinite evils and rottenness of virtues!" ("Don Quijote of La Mancha" de Miguel de Cervantes).

  • “Many of those who live deserve to die and some of those who die deserve life. Can you bring life back? Then do not rush to dispense death, because not even the wisest knows the end of all roads » ("The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" de J. R. R. Tolkien).

  • "War is peace. Freedom is Slavery. The ignorance is the force" («1984» de George Orwell).
  • "When the mystery is too important, it is impossible to disobey" ("The little Prince" de  Antoine de Saint-Exupéry).

Very good compilation. I would add one that I particularly love:

“When I was younger and more vulnerable, my father gave me advice that I haven't stopped thinking about since. "Whenever you feel like criticizing someone," he said, "remember that not everyone has been given as many facilities as you." ("The Great Gatsby" by Francis Scott Fitzgerald)

Yes, I would like another compilation post of quotes.
    All the best

Thank you for your good judgment in selecting remarkable thoughts from the great talents of humanity. I am infinitely happy that there are people like you, ready to light the torch of wisdom to dispel the darkness of our existence.
I have a phrase that you could add in the future, "The vulgar is an old Narcissus who adores himself, and who applauds everything vulgar." Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

"No rottenness is possible in diamond." The Miserable

    "Prudence advises wisdom." The Miserables

“Cities breed ferocious men, because they breed corrupt men. The mountain, the sea, the mountain breed wild men, in whom the fierce side develops; but almost always without destroying the human instinct »Les Miserables

Thanks for purifying my moments on Facebook. Is it bad to scratch books? I add (with a charcoal pencil, in the margin) my opinion, or the idea that some phrases found in books that fill my soul give me. From Venezuela, a big hug.
