More bars than bookstores ... Or not?

Being honest and with my heart in hand, I will say that in many conversations about literature and books with friends I have criticized that in Spain, our country, there are more bars than bookstores. Everyone knows how bad the book market is around here and everyone also knows that, like us Spaniards, few know how to enjoy a good terrace in the sun with some beers ... One thing does not take away from the other, that is clear, and there is time for everything: to read and to go clubbing with friends, but what in Spain there are more bars than bookstores it is a fact ... or not?

Well, fortunately not entirely! We have found a small town in Spain where there are more bookstores than bars… Are you wanting to know where it is? Next, we reveal this mystery that the great Iker Jiménez could study and investigate ...

Urueña, Villa of the book

It is in Valladolid, about 50 kilometers to the northeast specifically and officially has the category of Villa of the book. But Urueña is not only an excellent literary corner but also has a lot to teach ...

It is unthinkable that a town with a population of only 200 inhabitants (approximate data) has a total of 5 museums (we have learned that one is about music, another is about the history of the book and another has a large collection of pop-up stories) and 11 bookstores ... How do you read it! I could not believe ... If this is not knowing how to take care of what is important, culture, books and what they can teach us and transmit, we do not know what can be.

There are other villas in the book, but in Spain Urueña is the only one. Others you can visit are Wigtown, UK, Tuedrestand, Norway o Fontenoy-la-Joûte in France.

People of Urueña, on behalf of Actualidad Literatura, and very particularly in mine, thank you, thank you, thank you!

    Hello again, Carmen.

Urueña sounded familiar to me, but I didn't know or didn't remember that he is in the province of Valladolid.

You are absolutely right: it is incredible about this town. I did not know what you say about him. What I wonder is: with so few inhabitants, how can there be business for so many bookstores?

I would love to visit your museums. And, of course, your bookstores.

Surely very few people in Spain know what you say in this article. Very interesting.

Unfortunately, you already know that the strong point of the Spanish is not culture. I wish it were not so.

A hug and thanks for sharing this information.

    Happy Easter.
