International literary competitions of the month of August

If a while ago we brought you the national literary competitions, we do the same but with the internationals for the month of August. Remember that the fact that they are national or international does not mean that only people of one nationality or another can appear. If you want to know if you can submit your literary work to one contest or another, make sure before reading the bases and requirements that are requested.

VIII National University Prize for Poetry Desiderio Macías Silva (Mexico)

  • Genre: Poetry
  • Prize: $ 10.000
  • Open to: students from any university in the country

Base

  • They will be able to participate students from any university in the country, with a single work, formed by a set of ten or more poems, whose total extension does not exceed 20 pages, with free theme, written in Spanish.
  • The work will be an unprecedented,, even in electronic media, it has not previously been awarded nor will it be participating simultaneously in other contests awaiting resolution.

  • The work will be sent in a closed package, identified with a pseudonym; Inside the package, a sealed envelope must be added, on the outside of which is noted the pseudonym, the title of the work and the legend "Desiderio Macías Silva Award"; The envelope will include a sheet with the author's information: name, address, telephone numbers, email, institution where he / she studies, ID or school registration, date of birth.
  • El receipt deadline of works ends Friday, August 5, 2016 at 15:00 hours. The works sent by courier that arrive after the time and date indicated will be accepted, as long as the date of registration of the shipment is not later than the indicated limit.
  • The jury will be made up of distinguished personalities from the literary milieu and will have the power to award honorable mentions if it deems it pertinent.

  • The Autonomous University of Aguascalientes will deliver to the winner, a single and indivisible award of $ 10,000.00 (TEN THOUSAND PESOS, MN).

XI International Short Story Contest Ciudad de Pupiales (Colombia)

  • Genre: Short story
  • Prize: six million pesos and Diploma
  • Open to: Colombian or foreign writers over 15 years old
  • Organizing entity: “Gabriel García Márquez” Foundation
  • Country of the convening entity: Colombia
  • Closing date: 14/08/2016

Base

  • Can participate Colombian or foreign writers over 15 years of age, with the exception of the winners and finalists of the previous edition, with a single free-themed story written in Spanish language, maximum 3 pages, letter size, 1,5 line spacing, 12 point font.
  • A prize de six million pesos and the Diploma of Honor "Gabriel Garcia Marquez", for the first place. Diploma of honor "Guillermo Edmundo Chaves" for the best short story writer by an author born in the Department of Nariño. Nine more works will be selected as finalists.
  • The works must be forwarded by word file y signed with a pseudonym to the following email address: fundaciongabrielgarciamarquez@gmail.com, before August 15, 2016. In the same email a second file will be added, also in Word, with personal data: Name, pseudonym, date of birth, identity document number, address, telephone, email and others aspects that the author considers convenient.   • El qualifying jury It is made up of the writers Marco Tulio Aguilera Garramuño, Daniel Ferreira and Carlos Bastidas Padilla. The jury is supported by institutions and personalities of letters in order to facilitate the work of reading and selecting finalist texts.
  • The award ceremony will take place in Pupiales, Nariño, on October 14, 2016. Said result will be communicated personally to the award-winning writers and will be disseminated by different media.
  • El verdict It will be known through a video published on regional television channels, on the “Gabriel García Márquez” Foundation account on YouTube, on the web www.albeiroarciniegas.co and http://fundaciongabo.wix.com//fundaciongabo and on the different social networks, in order to have a wide diffusion in Colombia and abroad.

7th National Young Narrative Competition Gustavo Díaz Solís (Venezuela)

  • Gender: Children and youth
  • Prize: fifteen thousand bolivars (Bs. 15.000,00) and ebook edition
  • Open to: young students up to 21 years of age
  • Organizing entity: Ministry of Popular Power for Culture, through the Fundación Casa Nacional de las Letras Andrés Bello
  • Country of the convening entity: Venezuela
  • Closing date: 19/08/2016

Base

  • All young students up to 21 years of age.
  • Applicants must submit a file in .PDF format with one or more stories of free creation to email contestsfundacioncasabello@gmail.com and with a minimum length of five pages y maximum of fifteen, in Times New Roman font, size 12, with double spacing.
  • The work file must be identified with a pseudonym and in another .PDF file the names and surnames of the author, room address and identification of the institute in which they study (including telephone numbers), personal telephone numbers (minimum two contacts), email, proof of studies and identity card will be placed scanned, as well as the representative's data in case of being a minor. These requirements are mandatory.

  • The deadline for receiving the works will be until August 19, 2016. The awards will be held during the celebration of Andrés Bello's Birthday in November 2016.

Chicago Hispanic Dramaturgy Award (USA)

  • Genre: Dramaturgy
  • Prize: dramatized public reading of his play by the cast of Aguijón Theater and $ 1,000.00 US
  • Open to: no restrictions by nationality or residence
  • Organizing entity: Aguijón Theater and Instituto Cervantes
  • Country of the convening entity: USA

Base

  • All Hispanic-origin playwrights, residents or not in the United States.
  • It will compete with a free genre play, written en español, extension not less than 60 pages nor more than 80. It will be especially valued that the works are related to some current social problem that mix humor and drama, as Cervantes did so brilliantly.
  • The works presented must not have been published or represented or made known by any of the currently known technical means, nor must they have obtained prizes in competitions prior to the date on which the jury's decision is made public.
  • The originals will be sent via email to the address dramaturgy@aguijontheater.org, En a .PDF document called "Construction site", duly foliated, where it appears on the first page, next to the title, a pseudonym instead of the author's name. In separate .PDF document called "Plica"In the same email, this pseudonym will be included as well as personal and location data, a brief biographical file of the author and a copy of his identity document.

  • The Prize may be declared shared but not void. No member of the organizing institutions may compete.
