Horror books for Halloween

Books for halloween

There is a party that is loved by many (more and more are dressing up and enjoying it) and hated by some: Halloween. Controversies and differences aside, why weren't we going to offer you a compilation of perfect books for that day? Here we bring you 7 horror books for Halloween, or for the date you want, that is your decision.

If you like the horror genre, we assure you that you will love these books.

Tales (Edgar Allan Poe)

Halloween book 1.1

I could not miss the classic king of terror… We recommend the pocket edition published by the Alianza publishing house in September 2010, consisting of two volumes.

This two-volume edition offers a compilation of the 67 Stories published throughout his life by Edgar Alan Poe (1809-1849) in the magnificent translation carried out by Julio Cortazar. The first volume brings together narratives dominated by terror, the presence of the supernatural, metaphysical concern and a taste for analysis, while the second collects explorations about the past and the future, the beautiful contemplative stories that enclose the philosophy of Poe about the landscape, the series of grotesque pictures and the stories of a satirical nature. You will love it!

"Out of Hell" (John Franklin Bardin)

Halloween book 1

After a long treatment, Ellen is discharged and returns to New York with her husband. She has been hospitalized for two years and has not seen a keyboard since her nervous breakdown. Now he wants to resume his concert career, and the first thing he looks for when he gets home is his harpsichord. Only it is closed and the key is nowhere to be found ...

"Let me in" (John Ajvide Lindqvist)

Halloween Book 2

Oskar, a lonely and sad boy living in the suburbs of Stockholm, has a curious hobby: he likes to collect press clippings about violent murders. He has no friends and his classmates make fun of him and mistreat him. One night he meets Eli, his new neighbor, a mysterious girl who is never cold, it gives off a strange smell and is usually accompanied by a sinister-looking man. Oskar is fascinated by Eli and they become inseparable. At the same time, a series of crimes and strange events makes the local police suspicious of the presence of a serial killer. Nothing is further from reality. A contemporary horror story of extraordinary originality that will excite fans of the genre.

"Dracula" (Bram Stoker)

Halloween Book 3

Un classic almost obligatory reading.

Jonathan Harker travels to Transylvania to close a real estate deal with a mysterious Earl who has just bought several properties in London. After a journey full of ominous signs, Harker is picked up at Borgo Pass by a sinister carriage that takes him, cradled by the song of wolves, to a ruined castle. Such is the haunting beginning of a masterful novel that illuminated one of the most popular and powerful myths of all time: Dracula. The strength of the character -which the cinema took over ad nauseam- has over the years eclipsed the quality, originality and rarity of Bram Stoker's work, undoubtedly one of the last and most shocking contributions to the Anglo-Saxon Gothic literature. Our edition opens with a splendid, rigorous and illuminating prologue by the writer Rodrigo Fresán, the perfect prelude to the living rooms of the immortal vampire.

"The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" (HP Lovecraft)

Halloween Book 4

He tells us with that peculiar talent of Lovecraft to create oppressive atmospheres through suggestions that progressively disturb the reader the story of the unfortunate Charles Dexter Ward, a young man from Providence, a literary transcript of Lovecraft himself, lonely and meditative, who devotes himself body and soul to the study of the past, and in particular of the life and "miracles" of Joseph Curwen, a distant ancestor of his from the 1692th century, who arrived in Providence fleeing the famous "witch hunt" of Salem in XNUMX. Using diaries and archives he reveals the truth about that mysterious character, his secret and "impious sorceries", and the "frightful and preternatural wonders" that he performed. The case of Charles Dexter Ward is a haunting and engrossing tale that leads us straight to the heart of the dark myths of Cthulhu.

"The Shining" (Stephen King)

Halloween Book 5

What's become of Danny Torrance? Find out at the end of this volume, which includes the beginning of Doctor Sleep, the continuation of The Shining. REDRUM. That's the word Danny had seen in the mirror. And, although he could not read, he understood that it was a message of horror. He was five years old, and at that age few children are aware that mirrors invert images, and even fewer differentiate between reality and fantasy. But Danny had proof that his fantasies about the mirror's glare would come to pass: REDRUM… MURDER, murder. His mother was thinking about divorce, and his father, obsessed with something very bad, as bad as death and suicide, needed to accept the proposal to take care of that luxury hotel, with more than a hundred rooms isolated by the snow, during six months. Until the thaw they were going to be alone. Alone?

"Bloody Books" (Cliver Barker)

Halloween Book 6

Conclusion 4 volumes in total in which Clive Barker relives our deepest and most sinister nightmares, creating images that are at once shocking, moving and terrifying.

Whichever you choose, one thing is clear to me: you will be very scared!

    Hi carmen,

I agree on two of the classics that are my weaknesses: Stoker's Dracula and Poe's stories. I am interested (and very much) Let me in, since the film on which the book is based seemed magnificent and disturbing to me. The two I could read would be Stephen King and Lovecraft, of whom I have read something back when in my youth.

    Excellent selection 🙂

    Gabriel
