Hervé Tullet

Hervé Tullet is a French creative, illustrator and visual artist. He is known as "the prince of children's books", since his contributions to the publishing trade dedicated to children resignified reading, transforming it into a more imaginative act and always in favor of the reader. The author was born in 1958, in Normandy, Avranches, France.

All his books are designed as an experience. Each line, point or color is intended to capture the attention of young readers, as the author trusts children's intrinsic intuition, and gives them the opportunity to visualize and live true literary universes with artistic narratives beyond words.

Main influences of Hervé Tullet

Hervé Tullet describes himself as a big boy. One of her favorite activities is going to museums to appreciate the works of other big kids, like Cy Twombly and Richard Long. This is something that has motivated the author's brand of art throughout his life, but his penchant for living in wonder has an origin.

During his youth, he and his family were not very close to the literary or artistic life. However, Hervé Tullet was lucky enough to learn about Surrealist art thanks to a French professor, with whom he studied in his adolescence. The author felt inspired by the freedom and provocative sense of this movement, something that would mark his own work.

Biography

Hervé Tullet was born on June 29, 1958, in Normandy, a territory that is part of the French southeast. He studied Decorative Arts, Plastic arts, Visual Communication and Illustration. After graduation he worked for over a decade as an art director for various communications companies and advertising agencies.

In 1990,With the birth of her first child on the way, He left advertising to dedicate himself entirely to illustration. The reason that made him abandon his career had to do with the rise of new technologies, which made him feel uncomfortable. Hervé Tullet needed to create with his own hands, so he decided to embark on the design of his first book, a didactic, colorful and children's volume.

In 1994 his first title for children was released, Comment dad to meet mom. It was published by the publishing house Le Seuil. Since then, the author has created book after book, reinventing himself in each one to offer children more quality moments with their families, as well as movement, expression, fun and new ways of learning.

few years later, In 1998, the author was awarded the Non-Fiction Prize at the Bologna Children's Book Fair, by its volume Faut pas confondre. On the other hand, the critic specialized in children's literature, in evaluating Tullet's work, has come to the conclusion that the author must be valued for the development of the capacity for discovery that he offers to children, beyond the narration.

Likewise, specialists have urged parents and educators to share the artist's books with their children and students. For his part, Tullet, since he got to know the world of schools, has worked tirelessly so that little ones have the possibility of having a childhood full of creativity.

The works offered by Hervé Tullet are designed to be small and made of pressed cardboard, which makes it much easier for children to manipulate them. Likewise, all the books are half-made, so that both the little ones and the parents interact with the works freely. At the same time, this encourages the imagination, creativity and autonomy of the "readers".
