George RR Martin wasn't always famous

George RR Martin

Not long ago, George RR Martin was a relatively unknown author for a large percentage of the world's population.

His first novel in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, Game of Thrones, released in 1996, it sold relatively well. It was nothing groundbreaking, but it managed to build a fan base that was desperate to know everything about the Westeros world that the author had created.

In this year 2016, 20 years since the first book was released to the public and things have changed a lot for Martin, mainly thanks to the fact that HBO decided to make the series Game of Thrones, at which point the author became known and recognized worldwide.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first book, the author has decided to write a message on his blog "Not A Blog" unveiling a special edition Game of Thrones illustration that will go on sale later this year.

The author also took the opportunity to recall the moment when the book first hit stores, detailing the initial press journey. An example he gave was in Louis' book signing where he didn't see anyone hanging around and only 4 people were upon signature by the author.

"The crowds nor they reached 100 nowhere and at one stop (St. Louis, if you want to know), not only was the attendance of zero people but I took four people from the bookstore, which allows me to configure my "Bad signature" as a historical record at least four (on the plus side, I had time for long conversations with the few readers who did show up) But oh, things have changed a bit in the last 20 years. "

The new illustrated version of the novel will go on sale on October 18, 2016 and will feature numerous new illustrations. Meanwhile, the seventh season of the HBO series won't premiere until April next year.
