The great poet Rafael Alberti He was born in 1902 in the town of El Puerto de Santa María, province of Cádiz, in a family that despite having been very wealthy was not going through its best economic times. When the young Rafael was 15 years old, the whole family went to live in Madrid, which caused a huge longing for the sea in the then incipient Cádiz poet who missed the proximity of the ocean.

In his early days, he seemed more inclined to pictorial creation, a hobby that he continued to cultivate until the end of his days, but a lung disease forced him to spend a lot of time bedridden and since then he and poetry were one. They would never separate for the fortune of all the readers who still enjoy and venerate the poetic works of the great Alberti to this day.

En Madrid, In the Student's residence he meets most of the leading writers of the time and befriends them.

Later the civil war broke out and Alberti, recognized communist and activist, is forced into exile when it ends up settling in Argentina where he continued writing and painting until, after passing through Rome, he returned to Spain in 1978. From then on, there were multiple recognitions to his work, highlighting among them the Cervantes Prize awarded in 1983 for a brilliant career as a poet and playwright.

Finally, in 1999 at 96 years of age, a cardiorespiratory arrest ends his life in his own town of El Puerto de Santa María, in which at least he was able to contemplate his friend the sea until the last moments of his stay with us.
