Editor, writer ... These 10 tips can always help

Those of us who regularly write or write must bear in mind some much needed recommendations. They are the ones that help us manage our ideas and speech to put them in order and express them as clearly as possible. Of course, creative writing is not the same as content writing how is. Readers and media can be different and the message too. But this 10 consejos They can be applied to any facet of writing, adapting them to them, of course. Let's see what they are. Can we add any more?

1. Let's write when we have clear ideas.

Perhaps it is the most important thing. Highlight that first idea or rank those that arise for us to later develop them and make them clear. And of course we have at hand from the dictionary to any other resource of consultation to solve the linguistic, semantic or spelling doubts that may arise. We find many on the internet like the RAE, Panhispanic Dictionary, Fundéu, Instituto Cervantes and a few others.

2. The more you read, the better it will be written.

And in that I think both readers and writers agree. Nor is it an activity that we lack because surely we are always doing it. If it is not out of necessity, it is out of duty or leisure. The point is that in addition to the atención for the content, let's also put it in the way.

3. The best order of a sentence is the logical one: subject, verb and complements.

We already know how rich, extensive and malleable our language is. His figures, his turns and his flexibility, but to Caesar what is Caesar's and to master Yoda what is of Master Yoda. Much easier to maintain the logical order of a sentence is.

4. Let us keep in mind who we are addressing and who reads to us.

Obviously the readers of this blog are not the same as those of Paulo Coelho, Kafka, the Trademarks or the balance sheet report from the accounts department. Neither do we as readers put the same eyes about this article about Cinderella when we read it to our children. Also influencing sociological and cultural factors that we can suppose of that reader. So first of all that plain, simple and accessible language for everyone, without forgetting a certain quality, of course.

5. Caution with the use of the passive voice.

By contagion of english, It is common to see how the journalistic flock of this country likes to use the passive voice in headlines, intros or content of their articles. But it turns out this language of ours works in the active voiceIn other words, it is the subjects that are relevant, not the objects. Let us star in the action, let it not overtake us.

6. Let's save the long sentences. They tend to be confused.

Some of us have that dangerous hobby and I'm including myself. As a creative writer I tend to those long sentences that sometimes I can master and sometimes not so much. However, let's say that by writing a novel we give ourselves more freedom in style or what we want to express needs length. But when writing we must try to be precise and come to the point. Let's control those subordinates, those appositions and those circumlocutions. Or let's not hang out with them.

7. Let's try to avoid an excess of adjectives.

Sometimes we let ourselves be carried away by emotion, disappointment or rage and we go on denoting or connoting. When writing content, you have to try to get away from subjectivity a bit inherent that we have.

8. Let's not fall in love so much with our texts. Let's put a distance.

We all do it wonderfully well and we know it. Besides, they have told us. Besides, we have believed it. We have written a round article, really good. Actually, we always do. Maybe a day is shorter or it has cost us more or we like the subject less, but we do not fail. We have a touch, a gift. We were born with a pencil between our fingers, a keyboard under our arms. Nobody equals us creating words and putting them together. Some are called letter board. To us, teachers. Well that.

9. Let's not be afraid to cross out.

What is left over, what does not add up, what is not, what does not ring a bell. All those add-ons that do not provide nothing. It's complicated. The pleonasms are part of our life and now, in the prevailing political and linguistic correctness, the euphemisms they are our daily bread. We have loaded ourselves with splitting of genders (we no longer have sex) and housing solutions. We have had to learn to live with them, but we can save ourselves a lot of straw. If we want, of course.

10. Let's reread, review and correct.

And again. Without getting tired. And if we can, the fundamental thing is let a little time pass after a first rereading. A typo always appears, a word that we had internalized but not put, a treacherous tittle. It may be a few minutes or a day, but let's try it. It will benefit us for sure.

So what? Can we add any more tips?

    Good morning, Mariola,
As always, I love your blog (maybe because it is simple, close). I have to admit that I don't always have time to read it and I miss your new entry. I am in the process of searching for a job and that catches me, I am obsessed with making the search days intensive. I think that I have not yet been able to find the contact I need, and I have to get it. Is it a matter of effort? Well, nobody beats me on that (I'm an athlete). Sorry, as I already told you ... I get obsessed.
Your advice is very suitable. I'll stick with 8. "Let's not fall in love so much with our texts." Perhaps because that is the one that affects all the others.
Thank you very much, Mariola. I follow you, you know, but not as much as I would like: my reality forces me to be with the 5 senses in what now affects me the most. Let's solve this first and then the writing, reading and all that universe of letters and stories that wait to be discovered like the stars, in the sky of our minds, will come, trying to capture the attention of eyes that only look at the ground.
    A abrazo.

Hi Francesc. AL is not my blog, we are several fellow editors, but thank you for the qualifying adjectives that you dedicate. And more thanks for following us.
I know that you are there and I already know that first things first because I understand well the situation in which you find yourself. The good thing is that you take out those minutes to read every day. So come on, a lot of courage and a lot of strength and we will dedicate ourselves one day to literature.

Hello Miss. I am the Floro and I write, along with other colleagues, on Ana Mª García Yuste's blog elabrigodepuas.es. I like his advice a lot but there are some that I don't know how I'm going to do it because I don't think I have mastered the long sentences, although crossing out yes, that one is humble and knows that one has to remove what has been wrongly written . For the rest, except for the adjectives and the passive voice, it seems to me that I also control it, especially the subject, verb and complement since, when I write, I am very reflective. I don't want to entertain her anymore. You have a beautiful blog. Many kisses
