Words that were invented or created by writers

Recently an English-speaking program called Mental Floss has released an interesting list of words that writers have created or invented. It is a list of 43 words, a little smaller than the number of contributions that Arabic made to Spanish, but they are very interesting words and that will surely catch your attention.

So there are interesting words like robot, a word widely used today but which was an invention of a writer. The same happens with words like tween or twitter. The first word was invented by Tolkien when he was talking about Frodo in his work. This word began to be used in the English language for children between 10 and 12 years old.

The curious thing about all this is like the English language, although it does not have an academy that regulates the language, the number of invented words is relatively small, a situation similar to the situation of Spanish and that it has an Academy that cleans it, fixes it and gives it splendor.

Freelance was one of the many words invented by writers

Utopia, Yahoo, Twitter, Nerd, Cyberspace, Pandemonium, etc ... are some of the words that have caught my attention on this list, but of course the one that wins the award is "Freelance", this word appeared for the first time in Walter Scott's work, a word that referred to gentlemen working for their own account.

Although some of these words surely you already knew or imagined that writers had invented them, such as the word Utopia or bisexual, surely few thought that a word like Yahoo already existed, long before the popular Internet company or Twitter.

So I invite you to watch the video with the list of invented words and not only give your opinion but also present words that have been invented by writers and that have not been said in this list Have you been surprised by any? Did you know of any that are featured in the video?
