Covers of the two books "Berlin" by Jason Lute.

The world of comics often does not receive the enthusiasm it deserves from lovers of conventional literature. Surely, heThe conception of the comic as something childish continues to influence in the decision when deciding between one gender and another.

Of course, this conception is completely wrong and as a lover of this genre I would like to recommend a comic that, for readers less used to comics, will serve as a gateway into this wonderful written and drawn world.

The comic “Berlin. Stone city"And its continuation"Berlin Smoke city" can be classified as one of those works that make you understand this genre as something that literature cannot ignore or avoid. As a parallel art that combines the ability to create a genuine story and a fascinating illustration to accompany it.

Jason Lute, the creator of this work, brings us a story of love, overcoming and struggle. All this framed in one of the most fascinating historical periods in recent German history. The Weimar Republic and its final phase therefore become the backdrop for the plot of a story capable of hooking anyone who dares to read.

The political upheaval of that time, the struggle between ideals and the customs of the Berliners of the time, is shown to us as a unitary whole capable of taking the reader to the streets of a city that was beginning, at that time, to become the center of attention in a world doomed to a conflict of terrible magnitudes.

Excerpt from the comic.

In my opinion the genius of this comic  resides in the ability to present us with this time and the political conflicts that are diluted from it. The rise of Nazism as a real force and its rise and influence in the lethargy of the Weimar Republic is treated by Lute as the common denominator of a world with an inevitable end.

In this way and without discrediting the exquisite plot between characters that the artist presents, the choice of this comic is inevitably marked by the interest in knowing the prelude and birth of the Nazi regime. Not so well known period but no less important or interesting for that.

Finally, I invite anyone who wants to know this period and enjoy a good comic to get hold of these two wonderful works and delve into this precious literary genre.
