'The Mousetrap', the play by Agatha Christie

Saint Martin Theater

Today is International Theater Day And yes, I also have the impression that in recent years every day is the important day of something.

If last week we were talking about the International Poetry Day, this last weekend of March it is the theater's turn, the noble performing art that the cinema, despite the omens of the doomsayers, did not make disappear.

I was reserving the post about Agatha Christie of this month for this day, since the writer has in her prolific production with a play, The Mousetrap.

We should not be surprised by this foray into the drama of the English writer considering the good health that the theater has always enjoyed in the United Kingdom.

However, I am not only obliged to talk today about the play that Christie wrote, but also about the adaptation of one of her novels that she did and that can currently be seen in Madrid.

The Mousetrap

Play written in 1952 and premiered on October XNUMX of that same year in London, achieving great critical and public success.

Set in the 40s, it is a work in the Agatha Christie style. A two-act structure, it consists of eight characters who are trapped in the Monkswell Manor guesthouse due to a snowfall, and who are involved in a crime that occurred in London, either as victims or as suspects.

The Mousetrap (mousetrap) is the most performed play in the history of mankind. It has been performing in London continuously for 62 years, accumulating 25.000 performances and 10 million viewers.

Actor David Raven holds the record of having participated in 4.500 performances of the play over 12 years, although he is not the only one who has been linked to the play for decades as Derick Guyler has been the voice-over for 59 years. that is heard in the play, achieving a unique place in the history of the theater by having 'acted' since the opening night.

In Spain it was represented at the Apolo Theater in Barcelona last season, covered and directed by Víctor Conde.

Ten bold

The works of Agatha Christie have not only been brought to film or television, they have also been brought to the stage. The fact that some of her works end up being developed practically in one place, makes her very susceptible to these adaptations, as has happened with Ten boldAlthough the truth is that this novel was adapted by Christie herself to the theater.

The story begins when ten people receive a letter signed by an unknown Mr. Owen, inviting them to spend a few days at his mansion. An invitation that introduces a plot that will not leave anyone indifferent.

Ten characters locked up in the Isla del Negro and one murder. All suspects, but ... who will be the murderer?

Considered one of the masterpieces of mystery, Ten Negritos is currently represented in the Muñoz Seca Theater from Madrid, located in the Plaza del Carmen, whose tickets range between 15 and 20 euros.

Who said theater was boring? Go ahead and go to the rooms to enjoy the mystery live in true Agatha Christie style.
