The importance of the characters ...

Undoubtedly one of the most important things when it comes to write a novel, is the creation of characters and its delimitation and vital and psychological description. Sometimes, it is this same step that guides and enables the rest of the process, so it could be said that in some way the characters are in charge of carrying out the work themselves.

Robert Ludlum He delved into his own method of writing novels in his day, and left us an interesting reflection that we reproduce below:

«Once the characters are fixed, I am weaving a canvas, first very imprecise, of the events in which these characters can be included and I write two chapters. I leave them and go back to the plot. So I continue writing. After shredding the material done until then I am ready to go to the end. Usually the last chapters are written in a row. I don't know if it is a valid formula in general, but without a doubt it is the one that gives me the best results (…) With strong characters you can make a strong story ».

If something is perceived in his words, it is conviction in his method and without a doubt there is a lot of intelligence in creating the characters ... and letting them tell you what kind of novel they want to be immersed in.
