TÀNIA JUSTE — INTERVIEW

  • ACTUALIDAD LITERATURA: Your latest novel is Love of art. How did it go and where did the idea come from?

TÀNIA JUSTE: This is my sixth novel and I have the honor of having very faithful readers with whom we gradually grow and form a community. Love of art It arises from a great question that began to grow inside me once I finished the Art History degree. She had spent a few years dedicated to the study of artistic movements, years in which I discovered great artists of all times, and slowly I realized that all of them, the ones that appeared in the indexes of the books that were prescribed to us, were hombres. Then that big question arose: Where were the women artists in art history? In the novel that I have written, the protagonists are them, the women artists and those who loved and lived from art. She is a demand for the visibility of women in art

  • AL: Can you remember any of your first readings? And the first story you wrote?

TJ: I remember one of the first adult readings that struck me the most was The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde. It was one of those moments where I realized how far beauty in art can take you.

I've been writing stories since I was a child. stories that it never crossed my mind to publish and attempts at youth stories. The first one that I considered good and decided to publish was the novel To flower of skin, for now in Catalan.

  • AL: A head writer? You can choose more than one and from all eras.

TJ: Merce Rodoreda, Montserrat Roig, Carmen The forest, Irene nemirovsky, Thomas Man, Stefan Zweig… I could continue with some more from the past and other contemporary ones, but the list would not end.

  • AL: What character in a book would you have liked to meet and create?

TJ: Emmaby Jane Austen.

Books by Tania Juste

  • AL: Any special habits or habits when it comes to writing or reading?

TJ: The music. I don't like absolute silence (or noise), so I always write with music (classical, jazz…). A soundtrack that I am making and that accompanies me in the writing of each book.

  • AL: And your preferred place and time to do it?

TJ: I write in my study construction and also in Libraries, files and places I have to go to document myself.

  • AL: Are there other genres that you like?

TJ: I like to read of everything and of all times, and I don't rule out trying other genres and registers in the not too distant future.

  • AL: What are you reading now? And writing?

TJ: three books at once, forever. A biography de Mercè Rodoreda (wonderfully written and documented by Mercè Ibarz), a compilation of articles of the great Norah ephron (I do not remember anything) and I just started story of a braid by Anne Tyler.

  • AL: How do you think the publishing scene is and what decided you to try to publish?

TJ: I am lucky to have him. support from major publishers, both in Catalan and Spanish, as well as my literary agents. Women with whom we form a team and share great complicities. Publishing was a decision that took me years to make and that I don't regret. Every form of art is a dialogue and I feel very well supported by all my readers.

  • AL: Is the moment of crisis that we are experiencing being difficult for you or will you be able to keep something positive for future stories?

TJ: Life is made of great moments and others infinitely sadder. We learn from all of them and this helps us to understand the world a little better and, above all, to understand ourselves. All vital experience is artistic material.
