The rumor of the dead, the shocking novel by Enrique Laso

the rumor of the dead

Today Actualidad Literatura We present the review of one of the best books written by Enrique Laso, “The Rumor of the Dead.” A science fiction novel where Laso manages to hook you from the first page to the last.

Any lover of science fiction will have heard of the Necronomicon, the book created by Lovecraft, or maybe it was not a simple invention?

Sebastián Madrigal is a journalist who is at the lowest point in his professional career. The bills squeeze him more and more and he begins to fear for his financial future.

After an article about the Necronomicon that the journalist published without much care, an eccentric millionaire contacts him to offer him a job, a large sum of money in exchange for the original copy.

Madrigal, who despite his article knows nothing about the book, agrees to the deal. With the help of his friend Carlos and the enigmatic Claudia, he will embark on an adventure with significant repercussions.

Although the plot of the book has nothing to do with it, it certainly reminds us in some way of the famous book “El club Dumas”, by the great Arturo Pérez-Reverte; book that was brought to the big screen with the name of "The Ninth Gate" directed by Roman Polanski.

As we commented, the novel has brushstrokes similar to the story of Pérez-Reverte, although Laso has his own style and as the story progresses we forget the similarity of both stories.

"The rumor of the dead" is a fantastic novel, a mixture of fantasy and intrigue. The characters are very well created. Neither the good ones are that good, nor the bad ones that bad. All have their history and well linked. On many occasions it happens that, in a novel there are characters that are left over, this is not the case.

Another point in favor is the change in the time of the narration of the story. At first it can be a bit confusing, but it really is something that manages to intrigue the reader more.

A highly recommended book, quick to read (since you won't want to put it down) and with a perfect ending.
