Paul Doherty, the prolific British author of medieval series

Paul C Doherty is a reputable and prolific English writer of historical novel, mainly set in the Middle Ages and the reign of Henry VIII, but also in the Antiquity. His particularity is also that he has also signed many books with various pseudonyms such as Paul harding (the best known) or Michael clynes.

This is a review to its extensive work, of about 60 books, essential for fans of the genre, especially with mysteries to be resolved and sharp investigators of diverse social condition.

Born in 1946 in Middlesbrough, England, was going to priest Catholic, but eventually studied History in Liverpool and Oxford. There he got a doctorate with a thesis on Eduardo II and Isabel I. It was also secondary education teacher in various cities.

It stars Friar Athelstan, a dominican that, by a series of previous hazards in his life, is destined for the humble parish of San Erconwaldo in the outskirts of london. There, with his cat Buenaventura and his horse Philomel, he takes care of some very peculiar parishioners and dedicates himself to his great hobby, which is study the stars.

Athelstan also works as notary for John Cranston, the kingdom coroner, a man too devoted to his work and drinking. Both will be involved and will have to solve different mysterious, crimes and other crimes in medieval London.
