Panini seizes the rights to The Adventures of Captain Torrezno

The Adventures of Captain Torrezno will be published from its first volume by Panini.

The truth is that the news surprises me considering the type of material it publishes Panini, in terms of theme, nothing to do with The Adventures of Captain Torrezno, which to date had been released under the Edicions De Ponent label. But that does not mean that it ceases to be something positive in that the work that led to santiago valenzuela to win the National Comic Award In 2011, it will once again have a diffusion that allows it to reach those who have not yet discovered it, and from here I encourage you to do so. Panini's press release is extensive and makes it clear that the first volumes will be priced lower than the last two (the first of the second arc), but that there will be packs in which it can be purchased at a lower price for pairs of albums or even the entire first arc. I leave you with the aforementioned press release:

Panini is proud to announce that it has acquired the collection of Las Aventuras del Capitán Torrezno, a saga between epic, humorous, referential and very personal from two years ago that was awarded the Santiago Valenzuela National Comic Award.

Madrid, late seventies. José Hilario Viñeiredo, a mature civil servant cornered by loneliness, launches his latest bet against nothingness and tedium vitae. In the basement of his house, on a table that in time will be known as the Sierra Madre, he builds a miniature reproduction of something similar to the Garden of Eden, and he carves two approximately human figurines in wood. Male and female he created them, says Genesis.

Naturally, these works of lost love have not yet come to fruition, and it seems that the futility of living will regain its predominance. However, a dark character intrudes: Sinforoso Lafuente, a regular at the Denver bar with the gift of ubiquity and chatter that some customers call God, it is not known if in a nickname. After his intervention, José Hilario discovers that his clumsy toys have come to life.

Thus began the Microworld. How it will end, God does not know.

Captain Torrezno moves in a miniature universe created by an official of the Ministry of Public Works in the basement of his building. A fascinating starting point for an extraordinary series. The saga of Captain Torrezno transits between fantasy, epic, satire and social and political criticism. With his seventh installment, Plaza Elíptica, Santiago Valenzuela won the National Comic Award for 2011. His next volume, published in 2012, was already published directly by Panini with the title of The Morning Star, an obvious tribute to the Star of the Death of Star Wars, in which Torrezno faces a ship of massive destruction.

Santiago Valenzuela (San Sebastián, 1971), writer, illustrator and cartoonist, created Captain Torrezno in the fanzine Jarabe Comix in 1995. Determined to develop his own Tolkienian universe, he endowed his creature with an environment and a long plot, and in 2001 he published Far Horizons, the first book in the saga of The Adventures of Captain Torrezno. Since then he has published a total of 8 volumes of the saga (appeared between 2001 and 2012). He has written short comics for magazines such as Humo, Cretino, Dos tiempo breve or Tos, and has published books such as The Bitter Side (2005), Limited Society (2005) or The Cabinet of Doctor Salgari (2007), apart from collaborating with advertising and media companies.
