Who does not know those verses? Who has not ever recited one of his poems? Who can there already be in the world and the universe who does not know Gustavo Adolfo Becquer? Because the Sevillian poet is considered as one of the most widely read Spanish writers of all times. And he was born on a day like today, February 17, but 1836. So to top off this week of love, nothing better than to spend this couple of days off to read his work.
From a family of artists, when Bécquer began to write poetry Spain was culturally immersed in the realism, an artistic trend evidently opposed to the romantic period. His best known work are his Rhymes and legends, collection of poems and short stories. Today we remember some of his most beautiful phrases.
Bécquer died very young, only 34 years old and of tuberculosis (how could he not be a romantic poet?). And it was then that his work became famous and acclaimed. But we are celebrating his birth and the work that he left us.
