Mariam Orazal—Interview

  • ACTUALIDAD LITERATURA: Your new novel is titled a cure for the soul. What do you tell us about it and where did the idea come from?

MARIAM ORAZAL: a cure for the soul has meant to me one of the most exciting projects of my life. I'm more into light novels and embarking on this book was something I didn't even look for. We could say that the story was taking me. The spark that ignited the idea was the research itself; One fine day, looking for data for another novel, I discovered that England's first female doctor he had lived all his life as a man to be able to practice medicine. And nothing else was needed. Almost instantly he was born Paige and I knew what he wanted to tell.

  • TO THE: You can go back to that first book you read? And the first story you wrote?

MA: My first readings were stories. She devoured them. The logical step would have been children's and young adults' novels, but the truth is that at the age of 13 and after some time without much interest in reading, I discovered The House of the Spirits. Isabel Allende put me back on the right path, and since then I have never stopped being a compulsive reader.

As a writer, however, vocation it came to me very afternoon. My first novel was one of highlanders, which is an environment that I am also passionate about, along with the regency. Called The Offering and it is still published in the place where it emerged, on the Wattpad platform.

  • AL: A head writer? You can choose more than one and from all eras.

MA: I can't keep just one, I'm afraid. Although I will always say that I owe a lot to Johanna lindsey. She was the one who opened the door to romance for me, who unleashed in me this love for the genre, not only to read it but also to write it. Although perhaps she is not the reference that I have today when writing. I love Lisa kleypas, Mary Balogh, Julia Quinn, Sarah Maclean… Seriously, there are so many that I can't name them all.

  • AL: What character in a book would you have liked to meet and create?

MA: Put a Derek Craven in your life… The male characters by Lisa Kleypas They are always endearing and a little unforgettable, but Derek's tormented character, his intelligence, his ability to dominate everything and everyone except love... I would have liked to be able to create a character like him. Someday I will.

  • AL: Any special habits or habits when it comes to writing or reading?

MA: I am a worshiper of silence. I'm not saying I can't read or write with certain distractions, but when I can do it in complete silence I'm the happiest person in the world. That little bubble that I create around me is peace and happiness.

  • AL: And your preferred place and time to do it?

MA: Ah, well look, I'm not fussy about this. I usually read in sofa and in ebook, but I admit that my most rewarding experiences are always with books in paper. For writing I do not have a clear preference for any device. When I “sit down” to write, I usually go to the PC, but I also write complete scenes on the , depending on where you catch me.

  • AL: Are there other genres that you like?

MA: I like the historical narrative, a lot. And also the Novelty. In romantic I have read everything, although I always focus a lot on the historical regency or Victorian.

  • What are you reading now? And writing?

MA: I am rereading the Scoundrel Rules by Sarah Maclean. As for work, the novel in the Select Salon has opened a dangerous and wonderful door for me. I am reuniting with Chadwick in second generation, and up to here I can read.

  • AL: How do you think the publishing scene is and what decided you to try to publish?

MA: The publishing sector is very complicated. We are thousands, millions, who would like to earn a living writing and, although there are thousands and millions of readers who consume our books, it's never enough for everyone to succeed. Luckily, my intention in this world has always been to enjoy the process, live it... and I have found enormous comfort and satisfaction doing it with Selecta, my publisher. I decided to publish because I wanted to make others feel what I felt reading, and Lola Gude made it very easy for me. My experience has always been good, I cannot rant about the sector, although I do not deny that, at times, it can be a bit ungrateful.

  • AL: Is the moment of crisis that we are experiencing being difficult for you or will you be able to keep something positive for future stories?

MA: All life events, happy and dramatic, are a source of inspiration. When one works creating emotions, reflection based on the events one encounters is inevitable. The strength of the Ukrainian people, their courage and their hardships are universal, they are the same that move a little girl in medieval times to flee or face the terror of a despotic father or an oppressive regime. Of course what is happening affects me, but even sorrow is sometimes an engine for creation.
