Interview with Sol Aguirre, author of "Someday is not a day of the week"

Sol Aguirre

Actualidad Literatura has had the pleasure of meeting with Sol Aguirre, the author of "Someday is not a day of the week" and creator of the humor blog "Las clave de Sol". This Barcelonan based in Madrid, lover of cinema, yoga, reading and of course New York; He decided to quit his job as a marketing manager to fully immerse himself in what is his passion, writing.

SOL He explains to us first-hand how the experience has been to publish his first book, "Someday is not a day of the week."

Actualidad Literatura- You just published your first book and that is a big step. Tell us a little about the experience of writing “Someday is not a day of the week”.

Sol Aguirre - Writing this novel is a before and after in my life. I have learned a lot, about myself and about the act of writing. It was a very healing exorcism. The only thing that worried me when telling the story of Sofía Miranda was knowing how to transmit everything that happens to her inside in a year. The facts are easy to narrate, the difficult thing is to reflect how that affects us without expressly saying it, leaving the reader to intuit. Now that the book has been in the bookstores for a few weeks and I have received several opinions, it seems that yes, I got it. What a relief!

TO THE- What does literature mean to you? What motivated you to start writing?

HER- I've always read a lot. I'm an only child, so I clung to the books so as not to get bored. I write since I was little, in school I made my first steps in literature competitions. Then life swallowed me up and, fortunately, a few years ago I took up the hobby of storytelling.

TO THE- What books would you say have left the most impression on you?

HER-  "The house of the spirits" made me discover a new world. Any book by Isabel Allende touches me for weeks. "This too will pass" by Milena Busquets touched me a lot. The protagonist is a woman of my age, Catalan, with children, with a way of acting and speaking that could be mine… I identified a lot with her.

TO THE- And three auroras that have marked you ...?

HER- Isabel Allende, Elvira Lindo, Zoe Valdes.

TO THE- Going back to your career as a writer, at what point did you decide to leave everything to dedicate yourself exclusively to writing?

HER- In January 2016. One of my purposes was to write a book and, fortunately, The sphere of books, my publisher, called me two months later. My blog «Las Claves de Sol» also experienced enormous growth in those months.

TO THE- What or who do you draw inspiration from when you write?

HER- In what happens to me, I see it around me, in conversations with my friends, in my readings, in any experience that pinches me from here.

TO THE- Most of us have preferences, hobbies or even some ritual when we sit in front of the keyboard. Which are yours?

HER- I have two children, so my hours are limited by yours. I usually get up early, I need absolute silence, I make myself a black tea with milk and I sit at my desk. Normally I write in a coworking and, if the children go with their grandparents, also at home. I usually sketch a lot with a pen before throwing myself on the computer. Oh, and I always carry a notebook with me to write if I go to a bar for breakfast. Bars are a tremendous source of inspiration. When I went to New York to finish the book, my morning walk through Central Park was indispensable.

TO THE- With which authors have you collaborated or with whom would you like to collaborate?

HER- Apart from my colleagues on the Weloversize blog, I have not collaborated with anyone. I would love to create something with Mariella Villanueva, who writes like angels. And I am very curious to know what could come of something that we did between Màxim Huerta and me, he is a great writer and a great friend. We write very differently and you already know: the opposite poles ...

TO THE- Let's say things go further and adapt your novel to the cinema. Who would you like to play the role of Sofia?

HER- Maribel Verdu.

TO THE- Surely your readers will appreciate this question. Do you have a project in hand?

HER- I am writing a play with Manuel Velasco and also immersed in another project that I cannot talk about at the moment. I keep writing on my blog, of course, and in the summer I will start my second novel. At the moment I don't think it has to do with Sofia, but who knows. My intention is for my second novel to come out in the summer of 2018.

TO THE- You have fulfilled one of your dreams, what would you advise someone who is starting to write?

HER- Let him write every day, whatever happens, even if the next day he has to erase everything. You learn to write by writing. Don't be ashamed, don't be afraid. Don't compare yourself to anyone. Finding your voice is not easy, it requires a lot of work.

From Actualidad Literatura We especially want to thank Sol for the time he has dedicated to us. If you have not yet had the pleasure of reading this incredible author, do not hesitate to visit lasclavesdesol.com
