Who is George RR Martin?
George Raymond Richard Martin, better known as George RR Martin or GRRM, is one of the most famous American science fiction, fantasy and horror writers and screenwriters. He rose to fame especially for the series A Song of Ice and Fire, which were adapted into a television series such as the first book in the series, Game of Thrones. However, before that series he had other successes.
George RR Martin was born and raised in a working family. He was the first child of an Italian-German stevedore and an Irish housewife. He has two more brothers.
Since he was little he was very interested in reading and was a regular at books as well as starting to write stories from a very young age.
What did George RR Martin study
Since he was little he knew what he wanted in the future, so when he was the appropriate age he enrolled at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he studied journalism and graduated in 1971.
Once it was over, it was done conscientious objector and was commissioned to run chess tournaments as well as being a professor of journalism at the Clarke Institute in Dubuque, Iowa.
He combined his work with writing, since at that time he began to be more active in the literary part and wrote many short fiction works, some of them awarded, especially with the Hugo and Nebula prizes.
One of the first novels that opened many doors for him was Death of the Light, written in 1977, thus achieving that he could dedicate himself exclusively to writing, mixing science fiction, horror and fantasy.
In addition to writing, he began to become fond of his work in Hollywood as a screenwriter, participating in several television series such as Beauty and the Beast, The Twilight Zone, anthologies of world history ...
It did not last long, since in 1996 he decided to leave Hollywood and focused on his literary work in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he began to write the series of novels A Song of Ice and Fire, beginning with Game of Thrones.
His most personal life
He shared his life with Gale Burnick, a marriage that only lasted four years. However, this did not continue its march and they ended up separating in 1979.
However, love knocked on his door again in 2011 with whom he married Parris McBride.
Before these two wives, he had a partner, Lisa Tuttle, with whom he was in the 70s.
He owns the Jean Cocteau cinema in Santa Fe, and also the Coffee House, restoring and modernizing them, especially the latter, which turned it into a café-museum.
