Synopsis

I love you Pan, am I crazy? We, you and I, look at each other with need, the two mammals, therefore capable of anguish, with a tendency to kiss incomplete.

A look that chases all the dogs it passes on the street, accompanied by a certain nervousness... it is the biological clock that announces, outside the reproductive norm, a different desire, a dog's desire. Sara Torres explores a different poetic voice, that of intimacy and tenderness with which we speak to the animals that accompany us.

In conversation with Marta Velasco Velasco, who portrays animal coexistence through drawing, The book goes through different moments of life with a dog; from the longing for a non-human coexistence to accompaniment in the most difficult situations, of isolation and loneliness. A language that goes to the borders where the human and the animal are separated so that hand and paw are given over to a tender and invulnerable bond.

Fragment

We want to give you this endearing fragment of Sara Torres' work that reveals all the tenderness in living together with her beloved dog Pan; a relationship that exudes a love that only those who have had dogs know:

You spend the day making nests
you sculpt the quilt
until it's round
and hollow
you open burrows in the pillows
you move the dirty clothes
building bridges
to the carpet

wet, bare soil is the enemy
it's about avoiding it

you teach me your tricks
if we are going to live here
it is better to maintain certain habits

pour hot water
about chamomile flowers

without success I try to convince you
that this temperature
is not, in itself, a danger

I propose games
I cooked for both of us

Are you still sad

it is not all
of early winter
Their temperature

the problem is what happens
when bodies stop wanting
go outside

Why “Dog’s Wish”?

Dog's Desire refers to desire for a canine company. But it is not a mere infatuation in the purest childish style, es a genuine desire to share life with another mammal (remember that humans are also animals). It is a strong inclination to establish a pure and responsible love, a desire for simultaneous care and learning about dogs and their eternal fidelity.

Therefore, "Dog's Desire" invites us to reflect on the deep and enriching nature of love for animals, questioning pre-established norms and revealing the beauty of a bond that goes beyond the conventional.

You know how much you can love a dog.

In “Dog Desire,” Sara Torres immerses us in an intimate journey where the love for a dog transcends conventions. Through her narrated experience, a deep emotional bond is revealed that goes beyond a simple human-animal relationship. The connection with dogs, like the one described by Torres, exudes sensitivity, unconditional love and a complicity that sometimes rivals human relationships.

This type of bond invites us to reflect on the universality of love for animals, on how those who experience this special connection not only value animal life, but extend that respect to everything around them, including humans and animals. even inanimate objects. It is a reminder that those who value life in all its forms, from the smallest to the largest, cultivate a respect for existence and dignify everything beyond themselves.

"Dog's Desire" not only narrates a personal experience, but also opens the door to reflection on how love for animals can be a beacon of compassion and respect for the world around us.

The oxytocin cycle explains the “Dog desire”

Oxytocin

Oxytocin: the “love hormone”

The oxytocin cycle, known as the “love hormone,” plays a crucial role in the emotional bond between owners and their dogs. The release of oxytocin, triggered by physical touch and positive interactions, reinforces emotional connection. This phenomenon is not limited to dogs; Several studies suggest that living with cats and other pets can also induce the release of oxytocin in response to human affection.

Although dynamics may vary, this underlying biochemical cycle highlights the common basis of affection between humans and companion animals, expanding our understanding of emotional bonds with animals. In “Dog's Desire”, Sara Torres makes it very clear to us.
