DANIEL FOPIANI: The idea for this novel arose more than eleven years ago, when I first set foot on the island of Alboran and I couldn't help but relate that little piece of land to one of Agatha Christie's most widely read novels: Ten bold

En The heart of the drowned, in addition to the mystery, the suspense and the homicides, we are going to find traces of reflexión on illegal immigration or the integration of women in the army, among other hidden details that, I hope, some readers will be able to unearth.

  • AL: Can you remember any of your first readings? And the first story you wrote?

DF: One of the first books I read was a child-friendly version of Journey to the Center of the Earth, by Jules Verne. It is thanks to him and other classic authors that I am a reader and writer today, without a doubt. At fifteen or sixteen I began to write some reports, I remember that the first one I was awarded was one of Christmas themeIt was a very humble contest, but it helped me a lot to enjoy writing and to keep trying throughout my life.

  • AL: A head writer? You can choose more than one and from all eras.

DF: I've been reading a lot lately cartarescu. Immanuel Career is another of the authors that I always like to recommend.

  • AL: What character in a book would you have liked to meet and create?

DF: I used to like that very much Poirot, although if I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with a character for a while, I would choose to have a few beers with Sherlock Holmes. He was a character that marked my youth a lot.

  • AL: Any special habits or habits when it comes to writing or reading?

DF: I don't have any weird hobbies. Perhaps the workplace is clean and organized. From time to time, I also put on some jazz background.

  • AL: And your preferred place and time to do it?

DF: I always write in mi desk, and I do it when work and obligations allow it. I hope the day comes when I am the one who chooses the moment to write.

  • AL: Are there other genres that you like?

DF: It's not that there are other genres that I like, but that I usually read everything and varied. I don't think I've ever read two black novels in a row, I like to intersperse in genre and theme. I am a great lover of narrative in general, I really enjoy seeing how other authors write their stories, the plot or the genre is something that almost takes a backseat when I choose which book to take my eyes.

  • What are you reading now? And writing?

DF: Now i'm reading Solenoid, from Cartarescu. And although I already have some chapters planned for what could be a new novel, right now I'm launch-focused de The heart of the drowned, so I don't think I'll be able to write too much in the next few months.

  • AL: How do you think the publishing scene is and what decided you to try to publish?

DF: Booksellers and publishers generally agree that the number of audience and readers are aumentando, so it is great news not only for those of us who are dedicated to this, but because I think that reading and education are fundamental values for society.

  • AL: Is the moment of crisis that we are experiencing being difficult for you or will you be able to keep something positive for future stories?

DF: I don't think it can be removed nothing positive of a pandemic like the one we are experiencing. At least I can't find it. To tell you the truth, it's not like I feel like writing or taking advantage of the situation to work on a novel about the pandemic.
