Curiosities about poetry and music

Sometimes some people, when they want to say that the lyrics of a song are very good, they say that it is a real poem (or similar expressions).

This assertion (apparently) starts from the basis that the song lyrics (especially rock) are something very different, very different from the poetry (but that can be approached). This is a mistake.

The lyrics of the songs are almost poems and are very close to literature. Differentiating them would be as if someone were saying of a very inspired solo of Eric ClaptonLet's say that "it's so good that it even looks like real music", it wouldn't make much sense, would it?

The lyrics of the songs and the poetry are from the same family and even more, they are very close relatives, and their achievements, and their values and their defects must be measured with the same parameters. There are differences, it is true, but there are more elements in common: resources, mechanisms, techniques, tradition and purpose.

Although many times the lyricists of the songs do not travel the world of literature and make mistakes children of their ignorance (mistakes for not knowing their brought!).

In turn, music and poetry coexist in that border territory called "the song" and just as the music of a song must be judged from the heights of musical compositions, the lyrics of the songs must be judged according to ( and put in relation to) the highest points in the literature.

Someone who writes song lyrics must (should) be familiar, more than that, he must know and handle the world of poetry widely, although later his productions go through different styles. Otherwise, we are going to have to eternally listen to songs in which diminutives rhyme (I heard one that said: “love me a little bit / you are my sweetheart), with amorphous stanzas, and where paths are traveled with an inaugural air that, for now tours, they are boring.

Perhaps, the image (his image) that many (I am talking about artists and readers / listeners) have of poetry, does not share the image (his image) of music (a poet is not the same as a rocker) and that is why both worlds seem disconnected to them.

And there are those beings, full of confidence and arrogance, there they go ... and just as there is an audience for everything, we all have the right to choose who we do not want to listen to.
