The famous Spanish poet Damaso alonso He was born in 1898 in the Spanish town of Madrid where he later studied the university career of Philosophy and Letters and in which he carried out important studies on the work of Góngora that served to shed some light on the verses of a poet with gusto. by the darkness and that until then had not been entirely well interpreted for the most part.
Damaso taught and did so in the Universidad de Valencia, until he replaced the well-known Menéndez Pidal at the head of the Chair of Romance Philology at the University of Madrid in which he himself had studied. The awards were not lacking for his career either, and in 1945 he was elected a member of the Royal Spanish Academy, while in 1978 he was awarded the prestigious Cervantes Prize.
Apart from studying Gongora and to create his own poetic works, Dámaso Alonso was an excellent literary critic, a task that oriented and focused on Spanish poetry, which was his true passion, both as its creator and as a student of said subject. Finally his life ended in the year 1990 in which he sadly passed away.
