The best-selling books of 2016 on Amazon

Amazon

With the arrival of December, it is time to count the most viewed movies, most listened to songs and, of course, best selling books of the year. The first company to publish its list has been the giant Amazon, a company that in addition to supermarkets, music programs and television channels also sells books like churros.

Between the top positions of the best-selling books of the year on Amazon highlights the presence of Harry Potter (nothing unexpected) and other curious literary works among which we find vitalist odes, suspense or history.

Harry Potter continues to triumph

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

In February it was confirmed that the theatrical adaptation based on the continuation of the Harry Potter literary saga would be released in July. In turn, the writer JK Rowling assured that the script of the play would be adapted in book format, being Harry Potter and the Cursed Child the title of that eighth part of the saga of the famous magician that since the publication of its first volume in 1997 has been one of the recurring in the lists of world's best-selling books.

After filling the presales on Amazon, Harry Potter and the Cursed Legacy sold two million copies just two days after its publication on July 31.. A new story that presented Potter as an employee of the Ministry of Magic, married and with three children, including Albus Severus, the protagonist on whom this "cursed legacy" rests, which he must face with his father.

The next book on the list is a completely different one, aimed at a more adult and vital audience.  Remember that you are going to die. It lives is the autobiographical novel of Paul Kalanithi, a young American of Hindu origin who in 2013, the year in which he was finishing his residency to get a position as a neurosurgeon, was diagnosed with lung cancer when he was only 36 years old. Kalanithi passed away in March 2015, leaving this book as a legacy in which he reminds us of everything we must do in life, since death can lurk at the most unexpected moment. The book was published last September in Spain after weeks taking the top Non-Fiction Books of The New York Times.

John Grisham, author of one of the best-selling books of 2016.

While in Spain it was published last November A Rebel Lawyer, a novel by John Grisham originally published in 2015, the author of The Client was on Amazon's Foreign Language List as The Whistler, his latest novel. A thriller set in Florida that explores different cases of theft and corruption by judges in the United States with the help of an investigator and a lawyer with a double identity.

The fourth book on the list, The Last Mile is the second installment of David Baldacci's famous Amos Decker suspense series. Decker is a soccer player with synesthesia (hearing tastes, seeing sounds) and hyperthymesia (surprising ability to accurately remember every moment of his life). While the first part introduced us to a soccer player, policeman and detective Decker, The Last Mile explores the relationship between Decker and a new character, Melvin Mars, with abilities similar to his.

The next title, Killing the Rising Sun: How America Vanquished World War II Japan, is a historical book of Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard about the War of the Pacific and the consequences of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki dropped in 1945. This is the sixth title of the killing saga, in which we also find volumes around Lincoln, Kennedy or Reagan.

The definitive list of Amazon best sellers in 2016 would look like this:

  1. Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany.
  2. When Breath Becomes Air, by Paul Kalanithi.
  3. The Whistler, by John Grisham.
  4. The Last Mile, by David Baldacci
