And you ... how many books have you read?

Bookshelf

Yesterday scrolling through twitter, I see that many people talk about the books they have read this year. The question was launched from the great website Books and Literature.

Among the responses I saw people who claimed to have read 60, 65, 50 or 20 books. I began to do accounts and those who claim to have read 60 books or more, comes out to slightly more than one book a week. So I began to review my readings from 2014.

In number it is nothing spectacular, but there is something that caught my attention: I do not remember all the books. My readings are made up of my books, those that I borrowed from libraries and some that have been loaned to me.

Well, I have mine controlled since I see them on my shelf and it is enough to look to remember something of that reading. But of those that I do not have, I confess that I have forgotten some.

So I wondered what the point of asking myself how many books I have read in a year when it is clear that many of them have not left much of their mark on me. This is why I rephrase the question: How many books have left their mark on me this year? The question is more cheesy but perhaps more accurate.

This year I have to confess that I have discovered a writer that I really liked and of whom I have read two works: isaac rose. I bought The dark room and I took out on loan Another goddamn civil war novel!

The first has made me sit down with distrust in front of the computer (read it, it is highly recommended) and the second I consider a manual for any aspiring writer (among which I am).

I also remember reading and rereading and using the children's poems in my classes A world without words de Bianca Estela Sanchez. A delightful book that has at times been comforting for me because of its beauty and imagination.

And finally I will point out that this has been the year in which I discovered the great play of the Spanish twentieth century: Bohemian lights, Ramon Maria del Valle Inclan. I read it twice, marveling at this grotesque masterpiece.

Although I have read many more, when I look back, these are the first titles that come to mind.

And you… how many books have left your mark this year?

Well this year I decided to finally read some classic. The best hundred years of solitude and for whom the bell tolls, and I realized that they are essential to learn to be a good writer. Happy New Year!

The first that come to mind because of the footprint they have left me are:
    - «Silk» and «Crystal Lands» by Alessandro Baricco
    - "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway
    - "Blood Pact" by Mario Benedetti
    - "The Princess Bride" by William Goldman
The balance of my reading year is positive and, without a doubt, these have been the readings to remember.
    Regards!
