Carlos Augusto Casas — Interview

  • ACTUALIDAD LITERATURA: Your new novel is titled father's law. What do you tell us about it and where did the idea come from?

CARLOS AUGUSTO CASAS: It is a novel special for me, because I raised it as a straight: I wanted to know if from a approach classic of thriller o riddle novel (the patriarch of a wealthy family is poisoned at his birthday party and the suspects are his family) he could build a Novelty. And I'm very happy with the result and also with the reaction of the readers.

It's hard to know where the idea for a novel comes from, I guess they influence many factors. I am not very clear about how my head works, beyond knowing that it works badly. But I think the origin may be an article that I read a while ago in which they spoke of a study which showed that many of the tall executives and managers of large companies have psychopathic traits

  • AL: Can you remember any of your first readings? And the first story you wrote?

CAC: One of the first readings I remember was The island of the treasure and since then I dream of being a pirate. I don't rule out becoming one one day. The first story I wrote was a very bad story, with a lot of blood and a lot of violence. Good thing I didn't show it to anyone or my parents would have gone broke from the therapy sessions.

  • AL: A head writer? You can choose more than one and from all eras.

ACC: James Ellroy, George V. Giggins, Josep wambaugh, donald west lake,John connolly, Kem Nunn…

  • AL: What character in a book would you have liked to meet and create?

ACC: Philip Marlowe, the detective created by Raymond Chadler. More than creating it, I would have liked to go out for drinks with him.

Hobbies, genres and editorial panorama

  • AL: Any special habits or habits when it comes to writing or reading?

ACC: I write with music, always songs I don't know and, inevitably, one of them becomes the soundtrack of my novel. I can't stop listening to it until I finish it. When it comes to reading, I have no hobbies. I read when I can.

  • AL: And your preferred place and time to do it?

ACC: read at night, in bed. AND write I like to do it alone and in silence, something that rarely happens being the father of twins and three dogs. I also like to do it with my wife next to her, it comforts me to feel her close to her.

  • AL: Are there other genres that you like?

CAC: Yes, but not as much as crime fiction. I'm trying to read more poetry

  • AL: What are you reading now? And writing?

CAC: The last novel of Bret Easton Ellis the destruction. He is another of my favorite authors and I am enjoying it a lot. And I'm typing a novel that will initially be titled Ammonia

  • AL: How do you think the publishing scene is and what decided you to try to publish?

CAC: The editorial landscape is in boiling, is published a lot and quite good. I never thought my novels would be published, it was all by accident. Present There are no more jungle left to return to a prize and that's where it all started. However, I hope I can continue to do so.

  • AL: How are you handling the current moment we live in? Do you find it inspiring for future stories?

CAC: The reality of each moment can always inspire a good black novel. The human being is an animal so perverse and at the same time so fascinating that it will always generate new stories.
