7 bad writer's habits to eradicate

We writers sometimes lock ourselves in a universe of our own, one that has its own rules and where inspiration or illusion for what we do can take precedence over the result of our own work on occasion. A reality reflected in these following 7 bad writing habits to eradicate during our next literary adventure.

Do not let the writing rest

In writing, as in many other facets of life, acting hot may not always be a good idea. Y proofreading is possibly the most finicky part of the creative process, with many jobs that end up being victims of the "rush". Let stand what you have written For hours or days to reread it not only will it allow you to gain a more objective perspective of what you have done, but you will be able to apply the appropriate changes.

One of the most common bad writing habits.

The lack of subtlety

"He had not gone to the beach and she, alone because she had not found him, began to cry thinking about what would have happened if he had come" is not the same as "The hours passed. And finally, disappointed, she cried. And so on successive examples of that habit of making everything clear by active and passive at all times, subtlety being an (almost) obligatory claim in the story, but also very important in the novel.

When you start writing, the belief that starting your story with all possible descriptions in order to locate the reader is what is important is one of the most common mistakes. Why? Because with the thousands of books that are published today the reader already wants to have a reason from the first line to continue reading. Do not worry, that later, once you have sown the seeds of mystery, there will be time to recreate the setting and the descriptions.

The story and the novel

The story recreates a situation, while the novel delves into it and stretches it, creates a life, deeper plots in time, space and the soul. The problem comes when, either we try to make a simple idea that gives an anthological novel for ten pages, or vice versa, being that story that deserved a broader treatment that is put with a shoehorn in a two-page story. Write a story to the best of your ability, but carefully.

Disparage the cover

If your book is going to be published by a publisher, don't read this point (or yes, who knows); but if you are a writer who seeks to self-publish, think very very well about the cover of the book. In a world in which we are increasingly visual and instantaneous, standing out with your cover means surprising from the first moment, cast the hook, although another important aspect lies in the importance of reflecting well the soul and concept of the work if you do not want a good story to be spoiled by a cover that is not bad or ugly, but very little according to the work .

Spam

With the arrival of desktop publishing, There are many writers who have clung (I included in my principles) to overwhelm Facebook friends and groups with constant and generic advertising of their books. A tactic that not only bores your contacts, but is forgotten once the rest of users or readers find it. share day after day (and hour after hour at times). When it comes to spreading your work, promoting is a must, yes, but using other more original techniques that encourage the reader to take action will always be more effective.

Postpone

Bad writing habits: storing incomplete manuscripts.

Many writers open drawers showing drafts, unfinished works and stories that would deserve a second revision to express their full potential. However, other "priorities" or a low confidence in one's own work many times he burdens himself with all those motivations that could have led to something great or, at least, material to be proud of.

What other bad writing habits would you add?
