36% of Spaniards do not read books

Read faster

Sometimes we take it as a topic without much consistency, others as the most absolute reality, but what remains in the end are the figures, and when they refer to the reading in our country the result is not very enthusiastic (especially if we compare it with other countries like Norway or Sweden, where reading is like making a coffee every morning).

Yes, 36% of Spaniards do not read according to the latest study by the Center for Sociological Research (CIS).

Read?

moments to read

According to the barometer published a few hours ago by the CIS, 36.1% of Spaniards say they never read (18,3%) or almost never (17.8%), while 28% say they do so daily. The remaining percentages are divided into those who read once or twice a week (14.6%), once a month (12.8%) and once a quarter (7.8%).

Regarding the number of how many books we read for periods of time, 40.7% of those surveyed claim to have read 2 to 4 books during the last 12 years, 21.3% from 5 to 8 in the same time frame and 12.7% say they have read more than 13 books.

Regarding literary genres, the historical novel is the most widely read genre (23,8%), followed by "novel in general" (19,5%) and adventure novel (8,9%).

Finally, the survey also evaluates the influence of the ebook in these times, yielding results in which 21.7% confirm knowing the electronic book while 62.2% say they have never read in the format (One in four also indicates that they have no intention of doing so). In this way, the survey also confirms that paper (78.6%) beats e-book (11.2%).

As icing, 70% of those surveyed admit that in Spain people do not read much.

And I think that we are not going to take away their reason.

According to the latest CIS survey, reading rates do not improve in a country where 36% of Spaniards do not read books, and we guess that between two books that have been read in the last 12 years 50 Shades of Gray is one of them.

Deep down we are very predictable.
