VI FNAC / Sins Entido Graphic Novel Award

Madrid, May 3, 2012. With the aim of promoting and encouraging literary production in the field of comics, Fnac and Ediciones Sins entido convened the sixth edition of the International Graphic Novel Award, continuing their commitment to promoting production literary in the field of comics.

In its first edition (2007), the award went to the author Jorge González, for 'Fueye', published at the end of 2008. In the second edition (2008), the winners were Guillaume Trouillard and Samuel Stento, for 'La Estación de the arrows'. Esteban Hernández was the winner of the third edition (2009) for '¡Pintor!', Mireia Pérez was the winner of the fourth edition (2010) for 'The wild girl' and Juan Berrio was the winner for 'Wednesday' in the last edition, whose work will be published at the end of 2012.

The deadline for submitting works for this sixth edition is now open and will end on November 30, 2012. The rules governing the award are as follows:

Bases

1. All authors who wish to do so, of any nationality or origin, over 18 years of age may be eligible for the Prize, provided that the works they submit conform to the commonly accepted concept of graphic novels and meet the following requirements:

-They are written exclusively in Spanish
- Are original and rigorously unpublished (not published in book format, book
electronic, Internet, or serialized in magazines).
- They do not correspond to authors who died prior to the announcement of this call.
- They have not been previously awarded in any other contest, or are
pending judgment in any other contest on the date the submission period ends.

Works submitted that do not meet the above requirements will not be admitted to the competition.

2. Work

The modality to present to the contest is the comic, in its graphic novel format. Each author must send a book proposal with a minimum of sixteen (16) pages finished on one side only; whose final extension, for the winner, will be a minimum of ninety-six (96) pages. It may be presented in black and white or color, attaching a dossier containing the sixteen (16) finished pages, with their corresponding title, in printed copies in DIN-A4 format, plus a detailed synopsis (two (2) pages to one single side at least) with the content of the full story.

Said copies (original work will not be accepted), will be accompanied by the data of the author or authors: name, surname, address, telephone, email and photocopy of ID, passport or any other legally accepted identification document.

Once the Prize has been awarded, the non-awarded works will not be returned. As they are not original, they will be destroyed once the process is finished.

3 Shipments

The works will be sent or delivered, indicating on the envelope "VI International Prize for Graphic Novel Fnac-Sins Entido", at the following postal address: Ediciones Sins Entido / Calle Barquillo 11, 2º office 2, 28004 Madrid / award@sinsentido.es

Projects sent by email or on media other than printed paper will not be accepted (therefore, shipments on CD, DVD, pen drives, or similar are excluded).

4 Deadlines

The deadline for the admission of proposals will be closed on NOVEMBER 30, 2012.

The jury will meet at the end of 2012 and the decision will be announced in January 2013. The winning author will commit to deliver the finished project in the last week of June 2013. The winning work will be published at the end of 2013.

5. Composition of the Jury

The jury will be made up of cultural professionals and will be appointed for this purpose by the promoting entities, which reserve the possibility for a reading committee to select from the originals presented as many finalists as it deems appropriate.

6. Prize and decision of the Jury

A single and indivisible prize of 10.000 (ten thousand) euros will be awarded (to be paid in two payments: 50% for the amount after communication of the ruling; and the remaining 0% at the time of publication). The winning work will be published by Ediciones Sins Entido, which will be responsible for the production and editing, and the winner will sign a contract with this publisher for a period of 50 years, renewable and with a royalty percentage of 10%. The awarding of the award implies that Ediciones Sins entido will exclusively manage all the exploitation rights of the work, in all countries and for all languages, as well as all publishing rights in all media.

At the same time, Fnac reserves the right to organize with the originals of the winning work an exhibition that could be exhibited in its galleries, both in Spain and in other countries.

The amount of the award will be subject to the legislation on withholding tax regulations.

The jury's decision will be unappealable, the award may not be declared void or distributed between two or more works and will be awarded to that work among those presented that unanimously or failing that, by majority vote of the jury, is considered worthy of be awarded.

7. Distribution and Public Presentation

The winning work will be distributed by Sins Entido, and Fnac will guarantee its special implementation and communication in all its commercial spaces.

The public presentation of the award will take place in one of the Fnac Forum, whichever the organization deems most appropriate.

The fact of taking part in the contest implies the full acceptance of these bases.
