The AlhóndigaBilbao scholarship is for swimming

The jury that has failed this scholarship is chaired by Antonio Altarriba, National Comic Prize 2010. Through this scholarship, AlhóndigaBilbao wants to promote the creation and favor the emergence of new professional talents in the field of comics.

Bilbao, July xx, 2011. Josep Domingo “Nadar” is the winner of the fourth edition of the already consolidated AlhóndigaBilbao comic scholarship. This young man from Castellón appeared along with 42 other people for this fourth edition of the AlhóndigaKomik scholarship (one of the most prestigious and complete scholarships within the state comic scene). Domingo will have the opportunity to enjoy the scholarship at the House of Authors (La Maison des Auteurs) in Angoulême (France), part of the International City of Comics and Images (Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l ' image) of this French town. Through this grant, AlhóndigaBilbao wants to promote creation and encourage the emergence of new professional talents in the field of comics. To this end, through this initiative, it will finance the realization of a project selected for its artistic values ​​and its innovative character. In the first three editions of the scholarship, more than 120 people presented their projects for this scholarship, thus consolidating the quality and prestige of this AlhóndigaBilbao initiative within the world of comic book creation and graphic comics. The jury that has carried out the selection, as has happened on previous occasions, has been chaired by Antonio Altarriba, current National Comic Award for The Art of Flying, and made up of professionals from the world of cartoons of recognized prestige such as Miguel Angel Martin, cartoonist; Pepe Galvez, scriptwriter and comic critic; Jesús Moreno, editor of Sin Sentido and Santiago Garcia, scriptwriter, translator and comic critic.

The winner Josep Domingo del Calvario Nada ”(Castelló de la Plana, 1985), has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. He has collaborated in publications such as the magazine“ Dos Times Breve ”and, among other awards, his works have won the first prize "XXIV Ciutat de Cornellà comic contest" (2008), a second prize in the 2008 call for the INJUVE scholarships (Institute of Youth of Spain) and the first prize in the "XXI Noble Villa de Portugalete comic contest ». The Catalan Clara-Tanit Arqué was the winner of the first edition, the Galician Martin Romero, of the second. Both gave in AlhóndigaBilbao the workshop "12 hours of Comic", where they supported the participants to work on their improvisation and creativity skills and to develop a graphic story in a very short space of time. Álvaro Ortiz He was awarded the third grant and is currently developing his own comic project at the facilities of La Maison des Auteurs.

The House of the Authors of Angoulême.
The House of Authors is a center of recognized international prestige, dedicated to comics and other audiovisual arts (animation films, video games, ... etc.) and which welcomes authors from countries around the world to which it provides the conditions of work conducive to creation, with the aim of carrying out your previously selected project in it. Since its opening in 2002, La Maison des Auteurs has welcomed more than one hundred authors, both new and professional, from France and other countries, to develop projects related to comics. All these authors have benefited from a free equipment framework (individual or collective workshop) equipped with the necessary material for creating images (computer station, drawing board, scanner, ... etc.). Common spaces such as a computer and reprography room, documentation room, exhibition and conference room, among other resources, are also made available to the scholarship recipients.

Endowment of the scholarship.
The AlhóndigaBilbao-Cómic scholarship is endowed with:
Accommodation in an apartment for a maximum of twelve months (electricity, gas and water on behalf of the fellow).
Access to the equipment and all the services of La Casa de los Autores.
One thousand euros per month for a maximum period of one year.
AlhóndigaBilbao, on its own or in collaboration with a specialized publisher, will study the possibility of publishing the project the year following the end of the scholarship. The publication, if it occurs, will be in Basque and Spanish. This initiative by AlhóndigaBilbao is part of a broad collaboration agreement signed with the “Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l´Image” to promote both initiatives related to comics and other audiovisual trends that are currently booming.
