Stieg Larsson was a Swedish author acclaimed in all the latitudes of the world for awakening, in the intimacy of the nocturnal shadow, a great literary talent. It was a recognized prodigy and, at the same time, an editorial and cinematographic phenomenon. She built an enormous reputation as a war journalist, a convinced feminist, a chain smoker, and a lover of crime novels.

Of course, the tireless fight against abuse and violence is also part of his legacy. All of these qualities made Larsson a legendary figure. Therefore, his legions of readers are not surprising, as is his respected position in the literary sphere. It's more, his figure acquired a mystical air thanks - for the most part - to his most notorious work, Millennium, published postmortem.

Karl Stig-Erland Larsson was born in Västerbotten, Sweden, on August 15, 1954. It was the fruit of the union of a young and humble couple, who later could not support it due to their limited financial resources. It was about a beautiful Swedish architect and political activist named Eva Gabrielsson.

Gabrielsson and Larsson never made the decision for a formal marriage so as not to endanger her life. And that was logical, since Stieg was constantly threatened with death by political movements of the right. Thus, They never consummated or left any document of legal union between them. However, they lived together for 30 years, until Larsson's death.

A passion fueled in his "free time"

By having a life so hidden from public scrutiny, the Swede took refuge in two fascinating genres for him: narrative and science fiction. His passion for literature encouraged him to write during the afternoons and nights, after fulfilling his other formal occupations. Even in long days of long nights.

His works, opinions

His works have been the subject of controversy for some personalities in literature. On the one hand, there are many positive opinions in which Stieg Larsson is described as a literary genius. In fact, in many literary circles he is considered one of the greatest writers of the XNUMXth century.

On the other hand, writers like Mario Vargas Llosa visualize Larsson's style as:

"... a branch of hell, where judges prevaricate, psychiatrists torture, police officers and spies commit crimes, politicians lie, businessmen swindle and institutions in general seem prey to a corruption pandemic of Fujimori proportions."

Trilogy Millennium

Between 2001 and 2005, Stieg dedicated himself to writing more than 2.200 pages of his saga called Millennium, name that gave him by the fictitious magazine of his novels. It is a series of three crime novels set in Sweden, which have two main characters: Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist.

The protagonist acts as a skilled antisocial hacker 20-year-old with photographic memory, and her partner is a journalist. Together they are always involved in a series of events that make them guilty of criminal charges. So, in order to disprove the accusations, they must find the real culprits.

Sudden death and legacy

Larsson's will was to make 10 crime novels, but his sudden death did not allow him to continue his literary work. However, his family granted the publishing rights to David Lagercrantz, who has decided to continue with the other works. Obviously, the strategy has been a resounding success.

Stieg Larsson died in Stockholm on November 9, 2004, from a heart attack.. Behind his constant and dedicated literary work, lived a man with an excessive taste for tobacco, coffee and junk food. In addition to this, he constantly suffered from insomnia and fatigue. Sadly, all of these elements resulted in a dangerous combination that ended his life.
