Sonsoles Ónega Salcedo was born in Madrid, on Wednesday, November 30, 1977. She is the second daughter of the marriage between the renowned Galician journalist and writer Fernando Ónega and Marisol Salcedo. During her youth, Sonsoles was noted for being very intelligent and a lover of reading, a hobby she enjoyed among the books in the family library. Inspired by the trajectory of her father, Ónega decided to study a Bachelor of Journalism, and after studying at the CEU San Pablo University in Madrid, he received his degree.

Sonsoles Ónega has always kept her private life very discreet. She married in 2008 with the lawyer Carlos Pardo, a union that resulted in two sons. Their marriage came to an end in 2020, after a friendly separation process begun a year earlier.

It is the first book by Sonsoles Ónega. It is a short narrative novel, worthy of the third edition of the Short novel lyrics award. It presents the history of Cuba in the 90s, and the consequences suffered by the dissipation of the Soviet Union. Among its lines is a Cuban people that day after day suffers and fights without arms against the oppressive regime of Fidel Castro. This story was born from the experiences of the writer on a trip to Havana in 2000.

Its main protagonists are Saivy Cisneros Ballín and her son Sebastián; both fight in their own way against Castroism. Saivy tries to keep his house in good condition - while everything around it falls apart -, keeping alive the illusion of the return of his wife, who managed to leave the island years before. Sebastián, for his part, does his thing actively fighting from the dissent. It is a story full of a harsh reality that millions of Cubans still live.

Where God was not (2007)

It is the first novel written about the attack that occurred in Madrid on March 11, 2004, where there were 191 dead and almost 2000 wounded. The story begins at dawn that day, gradually describing the lives of various characters. Among them are a politician, a journalist, an immigrant, a judge and a prosecutor. Undoubtedly, a plot full of nuances in which all are protagonists who intertwine their lives on the train tracks.

That day, an Islamist group climbed into the wagons of the Alcalá de Henares station and planted explosives, thereby causing a great massacre. Ónega wrote this book focused on the feelings and experiences of the victims, without giving importance to the perpetrators. The author affirms that the facts presented are totally true, with allegations collected by herself during the 3 continuous years after the event.

After Love (2017)

On this occasion, Ónega presents a love novel set in Spain in the 30s, before the Civil War. This successful title tells a story of passion in hiding - based on real events. The work was so well accomplished that it won the XXII Fernando Lara Novel Prize. Its main characters are: Carmen Trilla - a woman locked in an unhappy marriage - and the army captain Federico Escofet.

Everything takes place in times when Captain Escofet had an important role in Spain and in the fight for the independence of Catalonia. Carmen, for her part, lived through difficult times, since it was a time in which women had no voice or vote. Both live a rebellious love that fights against society and the conflicts of that period. A great story that captures the reader and envelops him in a difficult reality lived by the Spanish.

A thousand kisses forbidden (2020)

After the success of his previous book, Ónega presents this contemporary romantic novel, which is set on the Gran Via de Madrid. The story begins with the chance meeting of Constance - a lawyer and recently divorced - and Mauro - a priest recently arrived from Rome. Causality brought together two destinations that in their youth lived a great illusion, and that for various reasons they had to separate.

The protagonists, meeting after 20 years, relive all those feelings that had been left on hiatus. After that, an internal struggle of emotion, passion and denials is unleashed because it is an impossible relationship.
