  • ACTUALIDAD LITERATURA: Your new, recently published novel is titled only lives who dies. What do you tell us about it and where did the idea come from?
SALVADOR GUTIERREZ SOLIS: It is the closure of a trilogy, starring inspector Carmen Puerto. On this occasion, he immerses himself in a case of the past that has marked his life, in addition to closing a good number of doors that were left open in previous installments. The reader will find a hectic, fast, and very visual plot, where twists and double looks are always present.
  • AL: Can you go back to that first book you read? And the first story that
    you wrote?
SGS: I started with comics, Clink, The Prince Valiant or Mortadelo and Filemon. The first book I remember reading, for fun, not because of school imposition, is Metamorphosis, of Kafka. She was 13 years old. And of course, my first novel, is influenced by Kafka. dictating to the lame, a novel with which I won the prize from the University of Seville.
  • AL: A head writer? You can choose more than one and from all eras.
SGS: I do not have favorites" in my life, or there are too many, depending on the mood or at the moment, and it doesn't only happen to me in literature, the same with cinema or music. I read everything, everything interests me, the great classics and novelties, from all continents, as well as all genres, especially poetry.
  • AL: What character in a book would you have liked to meet and create?
SGS:A lot of! I have always understood reading as a journey and as learning.
  • AL: Any special habits or habits when it comes to writing or reading?
SGS: I don't have any mania about it, nor do I need a special or unique space. I write or read anywhere, I have the ability to disconnect from what surrounds me, instantly.
  • AL: And your preferred place and time to do it?
SGS: Poetry, always at night. The bed I like to read.
  • AL: Are there other genres that you like?
SGS: I read all kinds of genres.
  • AL: What are you reading now? And writing?
SGS: I am now reading the new novel by Dolores Redondo, waiting for the deluge. Took notes of a possible new novel.
  • AL: How do you think the publishing scene is?
SGS: Segmented, very stagnant in the large structures, diverse and daring in the lower segments.
  • AL: Is the moment of crisis that we are experiencing being difficult for you or will you be able to keep something positive for future stories?
SGS: The pandemic paralyzed many authors, but it activated me. I found in writing, in creativity, a refuge in which to escape and get away from what was happening.
