Nubico is a flat rate digital book platform belonging to Movistar. Nubico is Movistar's first editorial experience, which applies the same model as the one used for series and movies: unlimited books within the catalog for a fee of 8,99 euros per month and a supplement for some of the news (less than 9 months).
Nubico has in catalog more than 25.000 e-books and 50 magazines. The price of books is no longer the great excuse for piracy.
What books can be found in Nubico?
Nubico seems like the perfect platform for the digital reader that devours news and bestsellers. On the front page of the catalog we find the top selling authors of the moment: María Dueñas, Espido Freire, César Pérez Guellida, Elio Quiroga, Javier Sierra, Julia Navarro, Paul Uster, Camila Lackbërg Javier Castillo or Almudena Grandes. And with an additional payment, the latest titles to hit bookstores. Nubico offer in digital the same books that we can find on paper in a traditional bookstore. Of course, the bestsellers of self-help, youth and classics (Lorca, Dostoevski, Brontë, Austen, Verne or García Márquez among them).
As in the series and movies platform, during the novelty period in which an additional payment is requested the title may be valid for a maximum of 9 months, although it does not affect all news.
The catalog updated daily yltitles are not available indefinitely, for a limited time only. For those who are subscribed to Netflix or Movistar, or at the time to Canal +, the operation of the catalog is the same.
At the moment, Nubico does not have its own content, it does not edit books.
To choose a book, instead of the recommendation the bookseller, the rest of readers, as in Amazon, since the titles can be valued between 1 and 5 stars. Books that have not been read on the platform can be valued.
How is it used?
Both the high and low are very easy from any computer or mobile device. Nubico has its own eReader device, which you require to purchase, but you don't have to. With its app, it can be read from any Tablet or IOS or Android phone or from any computer.
It can be read wirelessly and no need to be connected provided the titles have been previously downloaded. Very useful for the subway, to read on the beach or in a park, or for vacations in a lonely place.
Up to five devices are allowed in the same subscription which leads to:
- Five different readers.
- Synchronize up to five devices different from the same reader, so that the reading of a title can be resumed in any of them.
The Nubico user can download the 30.000 titles offered that will be available until they are no longer part of the catalog or request to be removed from Nubico. It is a service for access to reading, not for the purchase of books.
Nubico offers digitally through flat-rate rental, the same books that can be found in a traditional bookstore.
Books in languages other than Spanish?
Also available in Nubico, but with limitations.
The catalog contains almost 5000 in English and about 4000 in French. The English books include all the works of the classics such as Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, Shakespeare, Dickens, Lovecraft, Poe or Henry James.
En other official languages of the Spanish territory we found one disparate offer in terms of quantity: almost 2000 books in Catalan compared to only 22 in Galician or 82 in Basque.
Something more than books?
Magazines of all topics: from the pink press of all romantic intensity, starting with Hello and ending with Quore, to car, computer, decoration or sports magazines.
Other options?
Nubico is not the first flat rate reading initiative, the giant has long been Amazon offers its Kindle Unlimited for € 9,99 per month and a million titles available. The volume is not comparable because these titles include most of the self-published books on Amazon. Unlike Movistar, Amazon does the functions of editor for writers who do not enter the traditional publishing circuit.
Amazon does not offer its entire catalog on Kindle Unlimited and only 10 titles can be downloaded at a time. From that figure, to obtain a new one, another must be returned.
