National literary competitions for the month of July

And like every month, here we present some national literary competitions for the month of July. You know, that for about a month we have changed the date for the publication of these articles. Before we did them the same month that the registration period closed, and now we move forward a month or more so that you have time to introduce yourself to the one that best suits your literary style.

As we always say in these articles, read very well the bases and requirements that are requested in each of them and good luck if you finally decide to sign up.

XIV Contest «The colloquium of the dogs» of short story and photography

• Genre: Story
• Prize: € 400 and edition
• Open to: no restrictions
• Organizing entity: Cultural Association «The colloquium of the dogs»

Base

The Cultural Association "The Colloquium of the dogs" jointly summons its short story and photography contest. The lemboth in this edition will be "The book". Participants may compete in both sections or do it individually in only one of them, abiding, in all cases, to the rules established in the bases.

• Literary modality and theme.
  Short stories that adapt to the motto "The book." The originality and uniqueness of the works received will be valued.
• Participants.
  Writers with no age limit, of any nationality, with original works written in Spanish and not awarded in other competitions may attend this call. Authors who submit more than one work must independently and separately fulfill the formalities established in these bases for each of their works.
• Extension.
  The stories will have a minimum length of 3 pages and a maximum of 5 (in DIN A4 size), written in letter size 12 and Times New Roman type, with an interlinear spacing of 1,5 and margins of 2,5 cm. All pages will be duly numbered.
• Presentation.
  The works may be sent by email or post. In case of using email, the story will be sent as an attachment in .pdf format to the address contestelcoloquio@yahoo.esEach story will be sent in an individual e-mail, the subject of which will appear: "The colloquium of the dogs" contest. The email will indicate: name and surname of the author, address, telephone number and the scanned ID will be attached.

  In case of using the postal mail, the printed story must be sent in quintuplicate and by the motto and escrow system (in an envelope the title of the writing will be stated, within which the copies of the story will be included as well as another small envelope closed that will contain the identification data of the author: name, surname, address, telephone, email and photocopy of the DNI) to the following address:

  The deadline for submitting briefs will end on July 1, 2016.

• Jury.
  The jury, made up of two members of the organizing Association and three people of recognized solvency in the field of literary criticism, the theme of the contest or members of any of the collaborating entities, will choose the finalist works. The prizes will be awarded in a public act to be announced in good time.

• Awards.
  The Contest will be endowed with a First Prize valued at 400 euros, a Second Prize of 100 euros, as well as the publication of the winning works.

III Constancio Zamora Moreno Poetry Contest

• Genre: Poetry
• Prize: 400 euros
• Open to: no restrictions
• Organizing entity: Espejo Foundation
• Country of the convening entity: Spain
• Closing date: 08/07/2016

Base

• Language: Castilian.

• Anyone who wants to can participate with a poem not awarded in other contests, typed or computer written in a single column and on one side only.

• El theme, meter and rhyme will be free. The extension will be a minimum of 90 verses, En a unique poem without signature or pseudonym.

• Will only be accepted one work per contestant.

• The works They will be presented in 3 copies in an envelope, and within this will include an escrow (small sealed envelope) with the author's data, a photocopy of the DNI; subject and title of the poem on the outside. The works will be sent by mail, or by hand, to the Fundación Espejo Secretariat, at C /. Noi del Sucre, nº 65. ZIP: 08840 Viladecans (Barcelona).

• The admission period ends on July 8, 2016.

• Established awards: Free theme: 400 euros; Jorge Manrique theme, life and work: 400 euros.

• The jury will be made up of competent people in the world of letters, and their decision will be final.

• The award-winning contestants they will have to collect their prize personally. Failure to do so, the amount of the award will be returned to Fundación Espejo. The verdict and the awards ceremony will be announced in a public ceremony on October 14, at 20:2 p.m. The event will be held in Viladecans (Ateneu d'Entitats Pablo Picasso, Pje. Sant Ramon, XNUMX).

•  The winners of the contest will not be able to compete in the next edition.

XII Literary Contest "Carmen de Michelena"

• Genre: Short story and poetry
• Prize: 500 euros
• Open to: novice writers and people with literary concerns residing in Spain
• Organizing entity: El Yelmo Cultural Association
• Country of the convening entity: Spain
• Closing date: 10/07/2016

Base

• El theme will be about  Women and Equal opportunities in our society. New writers and people with literary concerns residing in Spain may participate, as long as their writings are written in Spanish.

• The works will be unpublished, understood as such, those originals that have not been awarded in other contests.
• It may be presented a work by modality, short story and poetry, indistinctly. For this, the following modalities are established: First Prize in Poetry; First prize in Narrative or Story Special award for school-age girls, in the form of story or poetry. For the purposes of assessment and qualification, criteria of argumentative creativity, didactics, and informative effectiveness will prevail.
• La maximum length of the stories will be 3 pages. Arial 14 font, minimum 1,5 line spacing.

• El Plazo presentation of the works will end on July 10, 2.016.
• The works must attach the following data or documents (included in an envelope or file): Authorship, Title of work, Photocopy of DNI, Address and Telephone. They will be accompanied by an affidavit that the work is unpublished and that its rights have not been assigned to any publisher, nor that they are pending a ruling in any other contest.
• Participants accept that their stories be used for public disclosure, or for use by the Association itself, forming part of its documentary collection.
• The winners will be obliged to attend the award ceremony, except justification of force majeure duly accredited and valued by the jury, in which case another person will be appointed to collect it.
• The prizes will consist of 500 euros per modality, short story and poetry. The local prize for school-age girls will be made up of computer equipment (valued at 500 euros).

XXI Edition of the «Vargas Llosa» Novel Prize

• Genre: Novel
• Prize: 12.000 euros
• Open to: no restrictions
• Organizing entity: University of Murcia, the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation and the Vargas Llosa Chair
• Country of the convening entity: Spain
• Closing date: 15/07/2016

Base

• All students may participate in the "Vargas Llosa" Novel Prize organized by the University of Murcia, the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation and the Vargas Llosa Chair. Spanish or foreign authors who send their works written in Spanish, with the exception of those who have obtained this Award in previous editions of this contest.
• The works of free theme, they must be unpublished, and they must not have been published in whole or in part, nor have they been awarded in any other contest, contest or literary activity, not only on the date of admission to the contest, but at the time of the proclamation of the decision, each participant must send a copy of the work. No more than one work per author is allowed.
• Said copy must be presented in accordance with the following specs: in DIN A4 format, double-sided typed, double space, in Times New Roman font of 12 points and a maximum of 30 lines per page. It will be paginated and duly bound. The length of the work will not be less than 150 pages. In no case should the author's name appear in the text of the work, but his motto or pseudonym should.

• The authors undertake to notify the University of Murcia that their work has been selected or awarded in another contest as soon as they know it, in order not to prevent other participants from accessing the prizes. The novels received will be considered completed for all purposes, and their authors cannot make modifications after they are sent for participation in this Contest.
• La Deadline for receipt of originals will be July 15, 2016. After this, only those shipments whose postmark evidences that they were sent before said date will be admitted to the contest.
• The foreseen economic endowment is a single prize, endowed with € 12.000. This award will be subject to the corresponding tax withholding according to current regulations.
• The convening entities will designate the composition of the Jury, made up of personalities from the literary and academic world. The Jury's decision will be final and will be announced in Murcia at the end of 2016.
