Lolita by Nabokov. Phrases of your classic for this Friday of Dolores.

Es Good Friday. First operation out of Easter holidays and onomastics of the Sorrows that we are in the world, no matter how much they insisted years ago to change the date to September 15. For those of us from the old school and with many Lolas in the family we continue to celebrate it today.

And my gift for this initial day of processions and torrijas is a review by Lolita, the most literary and famous out of the pen of the Russian born and American nationalized writer Vladimir Nabokov. There goes a brief analysis with a selection of phrases.

About Lolita

First published in 1955, Lolita is considered by many critics as a masterpiece of contemporary world literature and a modern classic. In his day it was rejected by four publishers, being listed as pornographic. It was The Olympia Press, a small publisher of Paris specialized in erotic works, which dared to publish it. Three years later it appeared in the United States.

He immediately raised a dust of scandal, controversy and controversy, in addition to accusations of defying taboos and showing openly the most unspeakable and dark desires of society. His popularity became even greater when Stanley Kubrick took her to the movies en 1962 with a script by Nabokov himself. They starred in it James Mason, Shelley Winters, Peter Sellers and Sue Lyon. Later there have been more versions but this is the most remembered.

So we have a work with different reading prisms that go from the romantic and erotic story to the portrait of a fairly self-indulgent society. And of course, in these new times of inquisition, literary censorship, at and x's for grammatical genders and so much political correctness, they have already put her in the spotlight. The story of the obsession Humbert Humbert, a forty-year-old teacher, for the very young Lolita leaves no one indifferent.

  • She screamed with a sudden squeaky note in her voice, and shook her body, and contorted, and threw back her head, and my whining mouth, gentlemen of the jury, reached almost to her bare neck, as I smothered against her left breast the last longest beat of ecstasy that man or monster has ever known.
