III GABRIEL GARCÍA MÁRQUEZ PRIZE FOR JOURNALISM (COLOMBIA)

El "Gabriel García Márquez Journalism Award" is convened with the purpose of recognizing and encouraging, in a time of profound changes in journalism, the search for excellence, innovation and ethical coherence on the part of journalists who work and publish regularly in the Spanish and Portuguese languages ​​to the public of America, Spain and Portugal.

This international award from the Gabriel García Márquez Foundation for the New Ibero-American Journalism (FNPI) It is possible thanks to the support of an alliance between the city of Medellín, Colombia, committed to freedom of expression and respect for the independence of journalists, and made up of the Mayor's Office of Medellín and the companies Grupo Sura and Bancolombia. It is also possible due to the permanent support that the FNPI receives for its programs and projects from its institutional ally, Organización Ardila Lülle (OAL).

None of the allies, associates or sponsors intervenes in the regulation, announcement or management of the Award, which is the exclusive and independent responsibility of the FNPI, under the guidance of its Governing Council, with the collaboration of autonomous juries, made up of distinguished journalists. from various countries.
These rules, approved by the Governing Council of the FNPI, constitute the regulations applicable to the third announcement of the Award, which takes place in 2015.

Categories:
The Prize will be awarded in a category of recognition of excellence and in four categories of competition.

  • Excellence recognition category:
    The Governing Council, by means of a sustained decision, will choose as the winner –without finalists- a journalist or journalistic team of recognized independence, integrity and commitment to the ideals of public service in journalism, which deserves to be highlighted and set as an example by the whole of its trajectory or for an exceptional contribution to the search for the truth or the advancement of journalism.
  • Contest Categories:
    In the competition mode, the Prize will be awarded for journalistic works published for the first time in Spanish or Portuguese between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015.
    The competing works must register on the Prize platform between Friday, March 6, and Monday, May 11, 2015.
    The works submitted to the competition will be evaluated in four categories:
1. Text
For the author of the best written journalism work, published in newspapers or magazines, both printed and digital, in Spanish or Portuguese, that stands out for the reporting, research and narrative value of the story.
2. Image
For the author of the best work of photography, video or visualization of events, which stands out for its informative and aesthetic effectiveness in the use of images as an essential language of the story about events with journalistic value.

3. Coverage
For the journalist or team that has produced as part of their informative work the best piece or set of journalistic pieces with unity of topic and editorial treatment, to report, explain, follow up and interact with the audience about an event or current news process and of public interest, which preferably has been carried out within a margin of immediacy and is reported using the best journalistic tools available.

4. Innovation
For the journalist or team that has designed and put into practice the initiative that deserves to be highlighted as the most valuable contribution to a better journalistic practice, due to the development of new types of media, content, languages, data visualization tools and other services , platforms or applications, as well as models of participation and relationship with the audience.
As long as they comply with the provisions of the bases, works published with a diversity of stories, themes, formats and supports, in journalistic media established to operate professionally and continuously at the service of the general public, may register in any of these contest categories, whether they have or non-commercial in nature, such as, for example: commercial or academic publishers; newspapers or magazines; radio and television channels, channels or stations; news agencies or journalistic investigation centers; blogs, microblogs, social networks or journalistic services based exclusively on the internet. The same concept will apply to journalistic innovation initiatives.
Whoever completes the registration will decide in which of the four categories they want the journalistic work submitted to the contest to be judged. In no case may the same work be registered in more than one category.

Awards:
The Winners Of the five categories, they will receive a diploma, a sculpture and the sum of thirty-three million Colombian pesos ($ 33.000.000), which will be paid, after deducting the applicable taxes, by bank transfer to an account in their name. , within forty-five (45) days following the award ceremony.
The two finalists in each contest category will receive a diploma and a gross sum of six million Colombian pesos ($ 6.000.000), which will be paid in the same way as the main prize.
The winners and finalists will be invited to travel to Medellín, Colombia, with all expenses paid, to participate in the award ceremony and in the discussions and activities that will be scheduled on the occasion of the award ceremony.
In the event that a work of collective authorship is awarded or a finalist, the person who appears as a representative of the work team will be invited to Medellín and receive the transfer of the respective money. The other co-authors mentioned in the registration document, up to a maximum of ten (10), may receive through that representative the diploma that accredits them as winners or finalists. Neither the FNPI nor the allies or sponsors will be responsible for the way in which the money bag is distributed among the team members.
Registration of contestants:
  • The contestants In the four categories, they must register on the FNPI registration platform (www.fnpi.org/premioggm), within the established period, submitting the required information, documents and materials, in accordance with the rules for submitting materials for each category.
  • Third parties may recommend works to compete, supplying through the electronic address award@fnpi.org the reference of the work and the contact information of the media or authors, so that the Technical Secretariat of the Award invites them to register their work. Only works that are fully registered through the FNPI registration platform will be valid to compete.
  • The Technical Secretariat of the Award may verify with the applicant or with third parties the information provided to the registration or request additional information. In the event that a case of falsehood or significant inaccuracy is established, the disqualification will occur and if it is the case, the decision to award or choose as a finalist will be revoked. The information of all the works that enter the final phase will be verified.
  • By means of the registration act, the contestants guarantee to the Prize organizers that they are the full holders of the copyright of the journalistic works and initiatives submitted to the contest or that they have previously obtained from the holders the permits or agreements that they may require for to compete and also to allow the publication and dissemination of the competing works, in accordance with these bases.
  • Works or documents received will not be returned.

78th HISPANIC AMERICAN FLORAL GAMES (GUATEMALA)

Base

The organization and development of the contest is delegated to the Permanent Commission of Floral Games, which may issue regulations and make decisions that it deems appropriate.
The reception of works opens on September 13, 2014, with the publication of these rules and closes without extension on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 18:00 PM.
The contest includes the branches of poetry, novel and short story.

  • POETRY: Participants can present an unpublished collection of poems, with a free theme, with a minimum length of 700 verses and a maximum of 900 verses.
  • NOVEL: An unpublished novel, with a free theme, may be submitted with a minimum length of 120 pages and a maximum of 160 pages.
  • STORY: Submit a work with a minimum length of 15 pages and a maximum of 25 pages.

REQUIREMENTS:

The works must be written in Castilian, being able to participate the Spanish-speaking writers, based in America and Spain.

  • The participating work must be unpublished.
  • Not be paraphrases or translations of other authors.
  • Not previously awarded.
  • Not be subject to any editing commitment; neither printed nor disseminated in physical or electronic medium. The works must be written in Spanish and the participant must present it as follows:

The work printed in an original, Arial font twelve points double space, on letter size paper (8.5 ″ x 11 ″ or 21.5 x 28cm.), Duly bound, with a cover in which the branch in which it participates, title is indicated of the work and pseudonym.

Must mandatory add an electronic copy on compact disc CD, labeled on the outside with indelible ink where the branch, title of the work and pseudonym appear.

It will be accompanied by an escrow or sealed envelope containing:

La Awards will be held on September 12 2015 at 19:00 p.m., at the Municipal Theater of the city of Quetzaltenango.

The poet or writer who does not appear at the award ceremony automatically loses the cash prize.
The winners will be provided with lodging and food, as well as transportation from their place of origin to the city of Quetzaltenango and vice versa, without including a companion, having to stay in the city from September 11 to 13, 2015 at noon, participating in the meeting of writers (indispensable). The rights for publications and / or royalties generated by the winning works will be the property of the Municipality of Quetzaltenango destined for the Permanent Commission of Hispanic American Floral Games.

Base

You can participate in the contest children, youth, adults and the general population with aptitudes for lyrical creation.
Contestants will deliver a poem, in original and two copies, whose theme and structure to be used are free. The works will be delivered accompanied by the author's data: names and surnames, identity card, work or study center and home address. Manuscripts with legible handwriting are accepted.

La reception of texts It will be at the Provincial Book and Literature Center located in Emilio Giró # 951 high between Calixto García and Los Maceo, from the date of publication of this call, until May 15, 2015.
Contestants must attend the public reading of their work, an essential condition, on Saturday May 16, 2015, at 9:00 AM, at the Provincial Museum, located in Martí esq. to Prado.
It will compete in three categories: children (up to 15 years old), young people (from 16 to 21 years old) and adults (from 25 years old).

For each category, a court will analyze the works and will award three prizes and a mention if it deserves it. The prizes will consist of collections of books, diplomas, bouquets of flowers and the promotion of the winning works by the different spaces of the mass media.
