Harry Hole. Readers Comment on Jo Nesbø's Character

One of the most brilliant criminal minds in contemporary black literature today saw its first light, scant and surely cold. It was in Oslo 61 years ago. It was Jo Nesbø. Its best known creature is Harry hole, which has been at the mercy of the worst and most unpredictable swings of that mind for almost a quarter of a century. So here are some opinions, long and short, readers who follow their avatars with as much expectation as devotion and horror. Thanks to everyone for participating throught social media.

Hooked on Jo Nesbø

Disastrous, chaotic, unbalanced and impossible. But overwhelming and inevitably loved. And the best (literary) policeman in the world, despite everything and everything. Point.

Several years ago I was commenting with a co-worker (also fond of the Nordic crime novel) the last books we had read.

I must have been monopolizing the conversation with my enthusiasm tending towards adolescent infatuation, because at one point he blurted out a clear and direct: «But who the hell is Harry Hole?». And that question ties in perfectly with why I sat in front of the blank sheet today: who the hell is Harry Hole?

It's complicated try to capture in a few lines who Harry is, perhaps one of the most authentic characters that literature has given us in recent years. Hole It is an eternal contrast, a bag where the best and the worst fit, a reflection of all those lights and shadows that each one of us carry inside and we strive to crush in the depths of our minds.

And no, I am not saying that we all have that alcoholic ghost prone to failure that accompanies Harry on his journey through life, but you will not deny that more than once and twice we would have liked to send it all to hell. Self-control, self-demand and posture are over: this is me and if you love me, you know. And we love Harry, well, at least I love him.

Sometimes reminds me of a classic hero, full of strength and power, loaded with wisdom and success. Other times it reminds me to a helpless and deluded child, getting carried away by the ups and downs of life and accepting what comes without even fighting. All those personalities are just as intense and important. in the Harry Hole universe.

Anger intertwines with love as a whole, and if we stop for a minute to think about it, aren't these two different emotions faces of the same feeling? Do not both have a brand of fire that destroys everything?

That's harry fire and intensity in their most beautiful and atrocious faces. You can count on him. He will likely screw up more than once, but he will always come back to fix it.

Come back, Harry. The world needs more authentic people (now more than ever). I love you. jeg elsker deg.

I think Harry is the antithesis of perfection. It shows all the faces of a person, sometimes incongruous, but real. We can see their weaknesses and weaknesses, but also their strengths that make it único. He is faithful to his own until death and forgives everything. That makes him close and vulnerable, even if it is intractable and freaking out. Has the ability to survive and get out of the deepest well.

  • Harry Hole is the quintessential antihero who survives in spite of all the bad drinks that life serves him in the form of a Jim Beam bottle.

Rocio Andres

  • Harry Hole is my favorite cop, I have read all 12 books of him as the protagonist, I read them in order and I fell in love with the character. It is atypical, earthy, flawed, lonely and very faithful to your friends.

Gaby fernandez

  • Harry is the quintessential cop. To his innate intuition he joins a tormented personality and total fidelity. Family and alcohol are its engines.

Maria del Carmen López Pérez

  • Jo Nesbo and Harry Hole. The perfect conjunction.

Naomi Santana Frías

  • Harry Hole is the antihero plus hero that I have enjoyed. A great character, so full of flaws that he falls in love.

Joselito Champion

  • Harry Hole is the only truth, there is a before and after him. Tremendous.

Neus Escamilla

  • To me I love Harry. He is tough, an alcoholic, uses unorthodox methods ... He has a complicated past and, despite everything, one sees in him a background of humanity and empathy that makes him one of my favorite literary characters.

Harry Hole impressed me from the first book, it really is difficult to find a character with so much strength and at the same time with so much feeling

Together with Servaz (de Minnier), Hole would be the perfect investigative police officer that every crime squad in the world would like to have.
