About GRR Martin: first and second stage
George Raymond Richard Martin was born on September 20, 1948 in New Jersey, United States. He is a writer and screenwriter generally known as George RR Martin in his books and as GRRM in his fan community.
He was raised as the first of three siblings; his mother came from an Irish family and his father was of Italian-Germanic descent. He was a passionate reader from a very young age, so his writing skills did not take long to come to light.. He studied journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston and graduated in 1971.
Martin married Gale Burnick in 1975 (the marriage only lasted 4 years), and he established himself as a writer in that decade with the publication of several works of fiction; the most acclaimed was Death of the Light (1997). His work was recognized with several Nebula and Hugo awards.
This success led him to work as a scriptwriter for the Hollywood industry and in several television series such as, for example, Beauty and the beast (1987). Finally, In 1996, Martin retired and settled in New Mexico to rededicate himself to literature.
That same year the novel was born that began his second stage as a writer, Game of Thrones (1996). From there George began to write the saga that led him to world fame and is still in production: Song of ice and fire.
Basis and inspiration
George RR Martin drew on the history of the actual Middle Ages to create Game of Thrones and the other titles in the saga Song of ice and fire. The civil conflict in the English crown known as the War of the Two Roses served as a source of inspiration. In fact, Westeros, the fictional continent where the plot unfolds, is similar in size and shape to Europe.
The writer has declared to be inspired by authors such as: JRR Tolkien, and Tad Williams, great representatives of fantasy and fiction. However, his work differs greatly from that of these authors because he enhances the real arguments more than the fictitious ones.

Game of Thrones plot
The general argument is about the constant fight between different royal houses of the Seven Kingdoms by the power of Westeros, a fictional continent devised by Martin. Without any kind of censorship, the writer mainly uses a political plot from which other stories related to love, betrayal, violence, sex and incest branch off.
At first the House Targaryen dominated everything, but Robert Baratheon manages to usurp the crown after a great fight, after two hundred years after the solitary rule of that lineage.
From this event, three major plot frameworks were created that take place fifteen years later. These happen simultaneously and build the plot of the work Game of Thrones and also the beginning of the story of Song of ice and fire.

Plot de Game of Thrones (1996)
In the first book Martin manages to build what will be only the beginning of a story full of surprises, thus capturing the reader. The death of King Robert has caused a dispute between different families to know who will be the next to occupy the throne. The story begins in the Seven Kingdoms, where the eldest son of the monarch claims his position, but this one, apparently, was born of incest.
At the same time, Martin manages to focus on the lives of Daenerys Targaryan and Jon Snow, main characters of the series. To the north, there is a Wall that establishes the border between Westeros and other lands, beyond this, ancient dark forces are rising.
In the story basically Jon Snow is a bastard who belongs to the Night's Watch, the entity that is in charge of protecting the Wall. It is common throughout history that Martín empowers anyone, and shows that even the least thought can generate a great change in the plot.

Daenerys is the last descendant of House Targaryen, rightful ruler of the Feeling Kingdoms.. She lives in exile and no one knows of her existence, but the plot will gradually bring her closer to the south, where she intends to claim the throne by right.
The history of this book ends when Daenerys survives the flames and becomes the mother of three dragons.
