Fourth edition of Norma's Manga Contest

Well, the bases of the Fourth Manga Contest of Norma Editorial. The term of admission ends August 31, 2009 at 23:59, so all those of you who are qualified, you have a relatively wide margin to present your work. The prize is very juicy so the effort is well worth it. Here below I leave you the basis so that you can review them in detail:

1.- The objective of the contest is to present an idea for the subsequent development of a 160-page manga. This volume will present a self-concluding story, but one that leaves an open ending to a possible continuation. It should contain charismatic and well-defined protagonists.

2.- The works submitted to the competition must be original and unpublished in all its form, as well as not having been presented to any other competition or made public (both in print and digital).

3.- The theme, style and genre are totally free and the project to be presented consists of:

* Summary of the argument of the work in a minimum space of 1 sheet and a maximum of 2 sheets (one-sided). DOC, RTF or TXT files are accepted.

* Creation of the first 8 pages (8 single-sided sheets) of the work. The winner will then have to continue developing the story until completing the required 160 pages.

* You can optionally add a cover (in black and white or color) as well as character cards.

4.- Projects can be presented in physical (paper) or digital format. In no case should the originals be sent, since in no case will the materials received be returned. The pages must be drawn at a size proportional to 11,5 x 17,5 cm (final print size), the maximum size of the original sketch or drawing being unlimited, but limited to 23 x 35 cm (plus 4 cm of blood) maximum for the inked and screened document. Any creative technique can be used, taking into account that the work will be in black and white and that it must be inked. Works submitted in pencil or color will not be accepted. For the use of manual or digital frames, as well as other details of the original format, the indications set forth in the NORMA Editorial Manga Style Book that can be consulted on this website must be followed. The quality of the reproduction of the projects presented (photocopies, prints, digital files ...) will be taken into account. If the projects are sent by email, the pages must be in JPG (300 dpi resolution, medium quality) or PDF (medium compression) format.

5.- A maximum of 3 works per author can be presented, individually or as part of a collective or group of authors. In all submitted projects, the following data must be specified:

* Name and surname
* Full address
* Email
* Phone
* Year of birth
* Artistic experience, if any
* Nationality

The contest is international in nature, so candidates of any nationality and age can present themselves.

6.- The award will consist of an edition contract to complete the work in a total of 160 pages and be published by Norma Editorial. This contract will include an advance payment for royalties and representation rights of € 2.000 gross.

7.- The admission period ends on August 31, 2009 at 23:59 p.m., peninsular time. All works received after this period will not enter the competition. The name of the winner will be announced through the NORMA Editorial media in October 2009, coinciding with the XV Barcelona Manga Fair.

8.- A jury selected by NORMA Editorial will rule in favor of a single work and will be able to determine if there have been other finalists. NORMA Editorial will contact the winner once the contest has failed and, subsequently, the official announcement will be made. The originality of the work will be valued, as well as the artistic quality and the graphic narration. The jury reserves the right to declare the award void.

9.- Projects should be sent to the following address:

NORMA Editorial (Manga Contest)
Passeig de Sant Joan, 7
08010 Barcelona

Or by email to the address:

contestmanga@normaeditorial.com

In no case will the material sent be returned. It is essential to include the data required in point 5. The reception of the projects will only be confirmed with the contestants by email, regardless of the format in which they have submitted their works.

10.- NORMA Editorial reserves the right to publish the pages of the winning work in digital or printed media in order to disseminate the decision of the contest.

11.- Participation in this contest implies acceptance of these bases.
