Ernesto Mallo — Interview

  • ACTUALIDAD LITERATURA: Commissioner Lascano has returned in Old dog. What do you tell us in this latest novel and why will it be of interest?

ERNESTO MALLO: It is a vitalist vindication of old age, a stage of twilight existence that literature rarely takes into account. Dreams, desire and aversion to being classified as a patient, victim or incapacitated encourage a very lively Lascano. He lives in a luxury residence and breaks into the scene of a crime, the slitting of another resident's throat, without knowing if the murderer is himself. Some memory blackouts weigh him down with the same ambiguity with which some loved ones disturb his dreams like apparitions. I can't say more about what it is about without ruining the intrigue.

I think it will be interesting becauses a stage to which they can reach the lucky ones and it is closer than you might think. Furthermore, it is a challenge to the reader to see if they are able to discover the murderer before reaching the end.
