Decalogue of the good writer

decalogue-of-good-writer

Although currently I do not write much, obviously removing what I write here and in others Blogs, when he did it he used to take a series of guidelines or steps ... It came to be like my own decalogue to continue to feel that what I wrote was done with knowledge of the facts, in a correct way and giving my personal and unique touch that could differentiate my writings from those of other people ...

At that time, I wrote that decalogue that I want to share with you today. If you search for any search engine Internet You will find many of them, so it is somewhat subjective and each one has their own opinion about what the decalogue of the good writer, so I would like to know your opinion about it and in what points you do not think like me. From the great diversity of opinions, it is from where you learn the most.

My particular Decalogue of the good writer

  1. For writing, any format is good: It does not matter if the inspiration comes to you in a cafeteria and you can only write on a piece of paper napkin, or that you are comfortably at home and you can choose between doing it in your moleskine notebook or on your personal laptop. The good writer can adapt to anything.
  2. Every good writer must read a lot, and not just classical literature or not just modern literature, ... You must read a lot and everything, the more the merrier.
  3. A good writer you should write even if you don't feel like doing it or have the feeling that what you write is not good. Like any other art, writing is practiced. You may have been born more willing to express yourself through writing than someone else, but that doesn't mean you stop practicing more and more. Write, and then I write again.
  4. A good writer does not stay on the surface of your texts, look for the depth, the poetics even if he writes prose, but without forcing the language. You do not have to over-decorate your writings, you do not have to pretend to be who you are not, literarily speaking.
  5. Look or "copy" the greats ... Bécquer, Auster, Kundera, Bukowski, etc. I could start saying names and not stop. Look at his literature, the way he writes, the way he tells and says. Seek to resemble them, so that when you get it (even from afar), you can add your personal touch that makes you different from the rest.
  6. Believe in what you do. You will hear opinions such as that "writing is useless"; «You waste your time if you believe and dream that one day a book will be published»… As in life, here you will also hear discouraging phrases that only want to prove you or make you down. Believe and trust yourself, because no one else will do it better than yourself.
  7. Give your characters a great personality, believe in their existence and bring them to life. In your writings you are like that God that they say creates life out of nothing ... Well, be the God who creates, changes or destroys whatever you want and takes your narrative on the path you want.
  8. From emotion and instinct great writings can be born, but beware! Do not always write under too much anger or under too much joy, because if you do, you will only write well when you are facing highly altered emotions. Get used to writing also when you feel absolutely nothing.
  9. Write for and for you. Don't think a priori what your family or friends will think about your writing. Your writings are yours, nobody else's.
  10. Help yourself with a good melody on the piano or a painting that inspires you to create. Art always creates art.

And now that you know my particular decalogue that every good writer must comply with or at least must read and take into account, what do you think about it? Do you generally agree with what I say or would you change something 100%? I would like to know your opinion.

This decalogue, as I indicated at the beginning of the article, was written a few years ago, but once I have reread I continue to think the same about each point. Especially in point 2: "Every good writer must read a lot, and not just classical literature or not just modern literature, ..."

Obedient like that naked Adam in the garden, I will also obey the goddess by answering her article. I have found it simply beautiful, very complete although everyone will have their personal opinion, their other techniques, removing some or adding others as she has warned. I would only like to suggest in point 1 that it has been very useful for me to write an SMS as a way to write down something that occurs to me at a time when I have nothing to write down, in this way I do not forget how I already have past. In point 2, it has helped me even to read graffiti written on the walls in the streets, it is not only reading literature, anywhere there can be a detail that helps us (even in what is not written). Thank you for this beautiful article.

I liked it when there is no interest and it is good to touch and write something.
