When conducting a web search on “Boris Izaguirre books”, the main references are directed to the novel Diamond Villa (2007). With this book, the extroverted Venezuelan author was a finalist for the Planet award that same year. Throughout his career as a writer, Izaguirre has created twelve literary titles, among which stands out A garden to the north, for being one of the best sellers in 2014.
Boris was a brilliant and outstanding young man, despite having had a difficult childhood marked by his dyslexia and the constant abuse to which he was subjected. His parents were a great support in his life, especially his mother, who always protected him. Biography of Boris Izaguirre
On September 29, 1965, Boris Rodolfo, son of the renowned essayist and film critic Rodolfo Izaguirre and the professional dancer Belén Lobo, was born in the city of Caracas - the capital of Venezuela. Encouraged by his mother, from a very young age he dedicated himself to writing. At 16 he got his first chance to be published in the newspaper The National —One of the most important newspapers in the country—, and debuted with the social chronicle: Frivolity animal.
From that moment on, his professional career was on the rise, first in his country of origin and later in his second home: Spain. In Venezuela, he stood out for his participation in the development of scripts for telenovelas Rebellious ruby y The lady in pink together with the playwright José Ignacio Cabrujas.
Thanks to the success achieved by these two dramatic in TVE, Izaguirre decided to move in 1992 to the European continent, specifically to Santiago de Compostela.
Professional successes
Based on experience, Boris Izaguirre has built a career in which he considers television as his main place of teaching. Once resided in Spain, rose to stardom in 1999 upon joining the show Martian Chronicles, where he worked for 6 consecutive years. He has also been a presenter on important Spanish television channels, such as Telecinco y TVE, and international as Telemundo y Venevision.
At 26 years of age, he wrote his first book: The flight of the ostriches (1991). After a hiatus, he resumed his work as a writer by publishing his novel Petrol Blue in 1998. . From then on Boris has written another 10 titles, among which stand out: Diamond Village, Two Monsters Together y Times of storms —His most recent autobiographical book. Diamond Villa (2007)
It is the eighth book by Izaguirre, which brought him very close to obtaining the award Planet in 2007. It is a novel set in Caracas in the 40s, a time of limitations caused by the ravages of previous dictatorships, but still with bonanzas as a result of oil exploitation. The plot presents a family from Caracas high society, who are going through tragic moments.
Synopsis
Initially, the narrative deals with the lives of two sisters: Irene and Ana Elisa, who —after the death of their father— are tutored by their neighbors, the Uzcátegui family. This significant change brings with it a myriad of situations full of hatred, pain and suffering that ultimately cause the sisters to separate.
The story continues with the independence of Ana Elisa and her determination to do something that immortalizes her, and for this he focuses his energies on the construction of a house. Many will be the dramas and characters that are presented in this plot full of mysteries around the Villa Diamante historical monument.
And suddenly it was yesterday (2009)
Izaguirre presents a novel set in Cuba at the end of the 50s, the one still governed by Fulgencio Batista.
The story shows two young men as main characters —Óvalo and Efraín—, who are in a hospital after merciless passage of a hurricane across the island. As they recover, they meet and discuss their future aspirations. Due to not being claimed by their families, they are transferred to a shelter. In that same place they meet Aurora, a young woman who will become an enigma in their lives.
Synopsis
After an incident in the shelter where they lived, the young people are separated and they don't hear from Aurora again for long. It is there where the journey begins in the lives of the two protagonists. On the one hand: Efraín ventures into the radio, space in which the first radio soap opera in Cuba came to be created; and on the other: Ovalo directed his life through the paths of politics.
Many are the events that the characters live in a reeling Cuba, a land facing a terrible transition. The panorama is not at all simple: the Castroist "revolution" comes to take power with everything of a government led by Fulgencio Batista, who maintains a good relationship with the Americans.
Two very different paths intertwine in this convulsed Havana, revealing throughout each page how romance, love and friendship seek to persist in a stormy political and social climate.
A garden to the north (2014)
This novel is the penultimate presented by the writer, it is a story based on the life of the famous British spy Rosalinda Fox. In the first instance, the plot is set in the county of Kent (England) in the XNUMXth century. Later it moves through several European and Asian countries where the protagonist will live her main adventures.
Synopsis
It all begins when Rosalinda's parents divorce and take her to Saint Mary Rose boarding school, where she ends up spending her childhood. Once into adolescence, she manages to meet again with her father, who worked as a spy. The young woman, dazzled by this profession, moves with her father to India.
Already being in the Asian country, Rosalinda begins to work in the world of espionage. After a while, the protagonist falls in love with an older man —Mr. Reginald Fox— and marries him. Shortly after, she presents some health problems, for which she must be hospitalized until she recovers. As a result of this situation, she separates from her husband.
After healing, she is sent as a secret agent to Nazi Germany to study the movements of Hitler himself. In full espionage work, he meets Juan Luis Beigbeder (a former Francoist military man), with whom he falls madly in love, a situation that complicates everything for which he prepared. It is an incredible story full of adventures in which Rosalinda is torn between her duty and love.
Times of storms (2018)
In 2018, Boris Izaguirre decided to publish this work to tell his own story. The narrative takes place between Venezuela and Spain. The writer tells in detail how his childhood was, how as a child he went through many difficulties because of his dyslexia and his mannered appearance.
Synopsis
Izaguirre's youth passed while he suffered harassment, both at his school and outside of it. This abuse came mostly from adults, who pointed it out on the grounds that he was so effeminate because of the bad influence of his parents. The accusations were rejected by his mother, who defended him and tried to keep him safe in her home, a place that ended up becoming a refuge for Boris.
The author also speaks of a love personified by a man named Gerardo, the son of a renowned journalist in the country. The autobiography describes the first 50 years of his life, which were stormy, passionate, glamorous and of great evolution.
Izaguirre shows himself as he is; it details her school life, her first love, and even an event as difficult as rape. He also recounts his first steps as a writer until he emigrated to the country that has given him the greatest opportunities of his life.
