Born on October 11, 1977 in Cuart de Poblet, a town in Valencia, Laura Gallego is one of the best writers of children's and young people's literature of our country. With three literary sagas and more than 30 works published behind her, Gallego began her career in the world of letters from a young age, with 13 written works that never saw the light of day until Finis Mundi, his first work, won the 1999 Barco de Vapor Prize organized by the SM publishing house, shortly after becoming one of Laura Gallego's most popular books.

Student of Hispanic Philology and great lover of letters on the Internet (the author was already leading a forum for literature lovers in 2003 and is a very active user on social networks), Gallego gives her work fantastic tints halfway between the science fiction and medieval fantasy but with a lot of feeling, unlike other titles of the same genre.

Although Laura Gallego has always excelled in youth literature, her children's books are also highly recommended.

End of the World

end of the world

Laura Gallego's first work was presented to various literary competitions until, finally, in 1999 she won the Barco de Vapor prize organized by the SM publishing house. The starting point for a promising bibliography that highlights this adventure book that has become a success after its publication.

End of the World, a Latin expression that invokes the apocalypse and that would be suggested by the author's mother, Marisa García, tells the story of the monk Michel, who belongs to the Order of Cluny. A protagonist who, following the instructions of the hermit Bernardo de Thuringia, sets out to save humanity before the arrival of the Apocalypse. The only way to do this is by invoking the Spirit of Time. How? Finding the three axes on which the Wheel of Time rests. The work is divided into three parts: The Axis of the Present, in 997, the Axis of the Future, in 998, which takes place in the city of Santiago de Compostela, and The Axis of the Past, in the year 999.

Sagas of books by Laura Gallego

Laura Gallego has stood out in fantasy literature in our country with many of her titles, but especially with its three sagas: Chronicles of the tower, Memories of Idhún and Sara and the scorers.

Tower chronicles

chronicles of the tower

After the success of Finis Mundi, Laura Gallego switched to the fantasy genre with the Chronicles of the Tower trilogy, made up of four titles. A saga in which its characters face epic events without abandoning a latent sentimentality among its protagonists. The heroine of the story is Days, a young woman who lives with her siblings but who has incredible abilities that make her the weirdo of her town.

However, everything changes when the mysterious Suren the Master, decides to recruit her to take her to the Valley of the Wolves, where the Tower can become the perfect place to put your powers to the test. After logging in, Dana will accompany you Kai, his invisible friend, until entering a Tower where he will begin his training with the fenris elf. As the plot progresses, the Tower seems to hide numerous secrets that are revealed to Dana in the form of a mysterious lady named Aonia.

Throughout the following books, Dana, now Lady of the Tower, is torn between her love for Kai and the magic of the Tower, after confronting the Master who recruited her. The books of the saga contained different cards (24 in total) to complement as they were all read. These are the volumes that make up the saga:

The Valley of the Wolves (2000)

The master's curse (2002)

The dead's call (2003)

Fenris the elf (2004)

Although many conceive this last book as one more of the Chronicles of the tower saga, Laura Gallego has emphasized on numerous occasions that Fenris, the elf must be conceived individually from the rest of the books and, even, be read before delving into Dana's adventures.

Idhun's memories

Idhun's memories

Without abandoning fantasy literature, Gallego once again immersed himself in a new trilogy, this time set between two worlds: the fantastic Idhún and Earth. The protagonist of the story is Victoria, a young woman from Madrid who spends part of her childhood in an orphanage run by Allegra d'Ascolli, a sorceress fleeing the world of Idhún, where Ashran the Necromancer currently dominates, who has combined the powers of the six races of this world with that of semi-divine creatures: unicorns, dragons and sheks, also known as winged serpent.

After discovering that it really is a unicorn, Victoria teams up with Jacks, the last dragon, and Christian, a shek, who live with her in the orphanage. Despite the more sentimental nature of the first book, Memories of Idhún tells the adventures of the three protagonists in order to restore peace and balance to the world of Idhún.

The first volume of Memories of Idhún was converted into a graphic novel in 2009. These are the different titles that make up the trilogy:

The resistance (2004)

Triad(2005)

Pantheon (2006)

Sara and the scorers

In this saga, Laura Gallego totally changed gender, betting on feminism in an institute. Sara, a young woman fed up with conventions, proposes create a women's soccer team that competes with the boys. Throughout the saga we witness the evolution of this "scorers", their challenges and their love stories. These are the different titles:

Creating team (2009)

Girls are warriors (2009)

Top scorers in the league (2009)

Soccer and love are incompatible (2010)

The scorers do not give up (2010)

Thank you for providing the titles of Laura Gallego García's books, and some information is appreciated for those works that I did not know. My favorite book? More than just one, it would be the Memories of Idhún saga, it caught me at the time, now after fifteen years, I'm rereading it, I hardly remembered it, right now I'm going to start reading Pantheon, the third part. I have to admit that in my life I have read a lot of fantasy, and I think that together with the trilogy of "The Lord of the Rings", I had never been so caught up in a story. Thank you very much Laura, for creating a world like Idhún and a character like Victoria. And with these words, which I do not know if they will reach Laura, I say goodbye and I am about to immerse myself once more in Idhún!
