"A good girl" by Mary Rubica

HarperCollins Editorial - September 7 - Pages

Mia is a twenty-five-year-old girl, a teacher, belongs to a wealthy family and has just been kidnapped by a man she met in a bar, a man who has held her captive in a cabin in another state. Unexpectedly, Mía has returned, but the current Mía is nothing like the Mía that was abducted. Now she calls herself Chloe and seems to have no recollection of most of her experience or life before the kidnapping.

Mary Kubica's first novel has an unusual structure: several voices speak, all in the present tense, jumping from before to after. This may sound complicated, but it is not. For a first novel, it is astonishingly polished and professional.
